GENEVA — Microclimate Wine Bar in Geneva has occupied the same space on Linden Street for over 10 years. When owners Anthony Do and Ellie Dolan purchased and took over operations of the business in 2022, the space underwent minor aesthetic changes.

The space has largely been untouched in the decade-plus of existence, but on Saturday, Do and Dolan hope to unveil the first structural changes the bar has ever seen.

Upon unlocking the doors, the 960-square-foot space will feature a newly designed back room with a larger kitchen, additional bar space that looks into the kitchen, and a redesigned bathroom.

The owners hope that the renovations and additions will allow them to expand their food menu, create more flow between the front and the back of the space and allow for more seating.

The kitchen space — which was smaller than a broom closet — has tripled without any seating being lost.

”Expanding the kitchen will allow us to expand our food program and overall business,” Dolan said. “Before, the food program was catching on, but there were limitations to what we could do.”

”The changes also expands what we can do in the kitchen,” Do added. “Whether its a pre-fixed menu, chef’s counter thing, more family style and hire a full-time employee as well.”

The work, done by local carpenter Jeff Anderson and Scott Kanehl of Solid Design Build, took roughly a month to finish.

”Scott and Jeff are extremely professional, amazing attention to detail, good-spirited and are so quick to come up with solutions in an older building,” Dolan said. “People should take note of the sink that Jeff built in the bathroom. It has no business looking as good as it does.”

The space has long housed a range of wine from the region, but since Do and Dolan took over, they have expanded the selections to include wine from around the world, local beer on tap, liquor options and Vietnamese-inspired food with occasional ticketed specialty dinners that usually feature a guest winery or chef, which they are hoping to expand upon with the changes.

A popular spot for the region’s wine, beer and hospitality industry workers, Microclimate reopens its doors for the remainder of 2024 this weekend with live music and new menu items.
