It's not a bird, it's not a plane, it's Syfy's Krypton.

Following in the footsteps of The CW's Smallville, another Superman prequel is on the way.

With possible connections to DC's Arrow and Gotham, Krypton is laying the foundations for a larger TV universe for the studio's small-screen adaptations.

After the first full trailer, audiences are told that the likes of the Green Lantern Corps and Omega Man could find a place on the show.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, executive producer David S. Goyer says that he sees Krypton as only the beginning of a much bigger DCTV world.

"The deal with the show is it's kind of this gateway into the DC science fiction universe," revealed Goyer.

"Because also the Phantom Zone figures into this show, it means we can delve into other times and planets eventually," added DC bigwig Geoff Johns. "Any of these characters could eventually show up."

Given that the Lanterns were only briefly teased in Zack Snyder's Justice League, hopefully Krypton can do a better job of handling the source material.

However, for those hoping for another Clark Kent Superman show, Krypton will head to the Man of Steel's homeworld to follow the adventures of his grandfather.

Cameron Cuffe will play the lead Seg-El, who is met by a time-travelling Adam Strange to warn of Krypton's grim future.

The trailer also hones in on Shaun Sipos' introduction as Strange, who tells Seg-El that his grandson is something of a big deal where he comes from.

Everyone knows that the House of El will eventually meet its demise to leave our Superman as the Last Son of Krypton, but all that is a long way off in the world of Krypton.

Johns and Goyer have high hopes for the series and apparently plan on it running for seven to eight seasons.

Considering that Goyer helped write Man of Steel, it isn't hard to spot the similarities between Zack Snyder's 2013 movie and Krypton's aesthetic.

Hitting our screens on March 21, comic book fans don't have long to wait until Krypton takes to the skies.
