Merlin star Colin Morgan has insisted that fans will be "satisfied" with the show's two-part finale.

The BBC fantasy drama will draw to a close on Christmas Eve, with Morgan - who plays the title character - telling TV Series Finale that the ending is "100% right".

"It's all like I expected," he said. "You know, I wasn't sure where it was exactly going to go and certainly when I read the final script, I was surprised about the story that they told and the way they told it. But... I think everyone will be really satisfied with it."

The Irish actor also admitted that he is unsure if he will star in any future Merlin movies or spinoff projects, citing the "risk" involved in reviving a much-loved franchise.

"Never say never, because the show's done so well and it has such an amazing following," he admitted. "The fifth season feels like such a right way to end it though. I think it's such a strong ending. It's the strongest the series has ever been.

"So, to continue it on, from an actor's point of view, there's a risk that I might not enjoy doing that. The risk that it might be something I don't believe in, like I believe in the rest of it."

Morgan's co-star Katie McGrath (Morgana) also cast doubt on the possibility of a Merlin film in a recent interview with Digital Spy.

"I could never understand what story we could tell better in a two-hour movie that we haven't already told in 65 hours of TV," said the actress. "If they can come up with a story that I feel like we've missed out in those 65 hours, I'll be like, 'Absolutely - let's do it', but I can't think of what it would be."

Merlin continues on BBC One this Saturday (December 8) at 7.55pm.
