Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett has tempted in the likes of Merlin's Colin Morgan and Rogue One's Felicity Jones for a new action thriller.

Titled Borderland, production on the Sky Original movie has now started in Glasgow, with Mark Strong, Aml Ameen, Sophia Brown, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor also part of the cast.

Morgan plays a retired Irish paramilitary who witnesses the execution of his pregnant wife by an SAS officer (The Maze Runner's Ameen) when an ambush goes awry.

Wounded and presumed dead himself, he takes his revenge to the dark streets of 1970s London.

Excited to finally unleash this one upon audiences, Sky's director of original films Julia Stuart commented: "I'm hugely excited to watch Borderland move from script to screen as it starts production in Glasgow. Packed with action, Borderland promises to keep you on the edge of your seat and I'm truly looking forward to bringing this tale of love, loss and revenge to Sky Cinema in 2022."

Producer Chris Coen added: "The best ones take time. Ronan wrote the first draft of Borderland in 2012 and here we are.

"I'm beyond excited to be filming in Glasgow along with my producing partners realising the Guard Brothers' thrilling vision with an unbelievable cast and crew."

Borderland was originally announced back in July 2020, with Midsommar star Jack Reynor filling the lead role and Star Wars' John Boyega cast as the killer SAS man.

The Guard Brothers, who are directing the movie, described it as a "vengeance-fuelled chase movie, fusing pulse-ticking action with a powerful message for our times".
