kakia is a singer, songwriter and producer hailing from Oranjemund, Namibia. From an early age, kakia was writing songs and poems, until she picked up her first instrument, a guitar, at the age of 10. Determined to learn more, she started music theory and piano classes at her school. Once moving to the capital city of Namibia, Windhoek, she stopped the music lessons but did not stop making music. It was in 2016 when she began using her laptop microphone to record these songs and release them on soundcloud.
Soon after she was given the opportunity to witness local artists record in a home studio, which only encouraged her to work harder on her own music. After a visit to the states in 2017, she returned home to Windhoek with her own microphone and ukulele to continue her journey. Now able to create quality songs, kakia began learning how to produce and record herself.
Her music is a blend of sounds she finds interesting, ranging from light guitar elements to carefully placed 808’s. This paired with personal stories and soft vocals creates her unique sound.
Her first self-produced EP, ‘coming down’ was released in October 2022, and shares themes of heartbreak, love, and loss.
kakia has been performing on Namibian soil since she was little, more notably headlining The Namibian Sun’s ‘Hunter’s tjil Sessions’ with fellow Namibian artist Kevo Maro, as well as performing at various gigs over the years in Windhoek .
Since relocating to Milwaukee in December of 2022, kakia has filmed an episode of ‘Live on Location with Jon Henry’, a series created by Joe Ludwig and Jon Henry, that showcases and promotes Milwaukee artists. The episode is available to stream on YouTube.
