Nominated to #GRAMMYs 2021 Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album
Bajofondo is an Argentine-Uruguayan collective led by Oscar and Grammy-winning producer Gustavo Santaolalla and producer Latin Grammy-winner Juan Campodónico.
In 2021, “Aura”, the most recent work of Bajofondo, was nominated to Best Latin Rock or Alternative album by the Grammys. “Aura” is a project that combines tango, candombe, murga and milonga with rock, electronic, hip hop and jazz, integrating those musical traditions, often underappreciated by the standard views of Latin culture, with a new perspective that breaks all definitions.
In 2020, it was nominated to Recording of the Year by the Latin Grammys, after winning “Best Electronic Album”, “Best Videoclip” and “Producer of the Year” at the Uruguayan Music Graffitti Awards, and “Best Instrumental / Fusion / World Music Album” at the Argentine Music Gardel Awards.
During the pandemic, Bajofondo continued producing music to unite borders. Their collaboration with Natalia Oreiro “Будем танцевать (Listo Pa’Bailar)” (in English phonetics: Budem Tantsevat) was released in Russia, where Bajofondo had already a history of collaborations. Their music was chosen by the official Russian Artistic Gym Team at the Olympics. Also, Otnicka, Belarusian DJ, who has already worked on the remix of Santaolalla’s song “Babel”, composed a remix for “Bailarín” a song included in “Aura”.
Juan Campodónico is a Uruguayan musician, composer and producer. His name appears in dozens of influential musical projects, including renowned Jorge Drexler. He has been awarded with 4 Latin Grammys, as well as with many gold and platinum records. He was also nominated to the US Grammy and the MTV Europe awards.
Gustavo Santaolalla, winner of the Golden Joystick Award for the music composed for “The Last of Us” (recently voted one of the best video games in history) is recognized as one of the most highly acclaimed and prolific contemporary Argentine musicians in the world. Winner of two Oscars for “Best Original Score” (Brokeback Mountain and Babel) he also has written music for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Amores Perros and 21 Grams; Walter Salles’ Motorcycle Diaries and On the Road; HBO’s Deadwood and Netflix’s Narcos Mexico.
