Cepasa - Niby Chaiky is out!
Cepasa - is a Ukrainian musician, music producer and artist based in Kyiv. The exquisite electronic sound that has become the key feature of Cepasa includes organic instruments, elements of world music and was born at the crossroads of downtempo and house, but it was the vocals, deep sound and sensual melodies that made his music recognizable from the first seconds. Pavlo Lenchenko, known by his stage name Cepasa, made his debut in 2012 with the album Doing Right which he performed live as an opening act for the Icelandic band Gus Gus. The successful performance marked him as a new talent on the Kyiv electronic scene and attracted the attention of the creative community and promoters. Since then, Cepasa has released 5 albums, 5 music videos and established himself as a sought-after live artist, having performed around a hundred live performances at various venues and festivals.
The second album Nove (2014) was written during The Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity and was noted by international music bloggers as «electronic music that is sure to turn heads». With the album Noises (2016) Cepasa's performances began to attract full houses and huge media attention. The name Cepasa appeared on the pages of Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar magazines and on the posters of underground parties at the same time. From Lviv to Odesa, he played at the biggest festivals - Atlas Weekend, Jazz Koktebel, Porto Franko, Polyana, White Nights, Ostrov, Krayina Mriy and others. The live shows on the same stage with Telepopmusik, Darkside, Dj Koze, Jay-Jay Johanson admired new hearts. The «White Noises» concert program with live musicians Oleksandr Davidenko and Anton Migunov was included in the list of the 10 best concerts of 2016 according to Karabas Live media. And in 2017 the musician was awarded the Ukrainian National Music Award YUNA New Breath.
The 4th album Dark Beauty (2018) entered the lists of the top 2018 albums according to The Village Ukraine, SLUKH, Karabas Live, Liroom. Youtube Music named Cepasa the most anticipated breakthrough of the year, and the music video Waves, which had received hundreds of thousands of views, was noted by Mixmag. This track was also remixed by the French electronic music trio dOP, but the release was delayed.
In 2020, the coronavirus occurred, significantly changing the music industry, and Pavlo focused his attention on film music composing. Thus, in 2020-2021, Cepasa works as a composer and music producer of the film "Kings of Rap" directed by Myroslav Latyk. The film became an official selection of the Odessa International Film Festival and received high reviews from critics, including for the music.
Pavlo Lenchenko completed the new album Niby Chaiky (2022) in Ukraine during the war. Cepasa's unhurried electronic sound in this album is combined with Ukrainian folklore and lyrics of the 20th century. The musician dedicated the first single Kyiv to his native city, recording it in April after the russian troops were knocked out of the Kyiv region. The track got into the rotation of radio stations and entered Spotify Top-50 Trends Ukraine. The music video for "Kyiv", filmed by FlyUA, entered the Top-100 most popular videos on Ukrainian YouTube, and received thousands of positive feedback and shares. The new album includes collaborations with Nina and Tonya Matvienko (Etnodim), the soloist of the Odesa Opera Andrii Kharlamov and Volodymer Chmil from the band “Khvyla”, which performs for Ukrainian soldiers at the front (Chervona Kalyna). The musician dedicated the album to the struggle of the Ukrainian people for freedom, putting into it the ideas of the unity of generations of Ukrainians and honoring ancestors. Part of the funds from the planned performances in support of the new album Niby Chaiky will be directed to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
