Dim All Broadway Lights in Honor of Gavin CreelDear Committee of Theatre Owners, The Broadway community and theater fans around the world were deeply saddened this week by the death of Gavin Creel. We are glad that Broadway's lights will be dimmed in honor of Gavin, as the Broadway League announced today. We are disappointed, however, that only some of those lights are currently set be dimmed, instead of all of them. Gavin starred in eight Broadway musicals, as well as four in the West End; he earned a Tony and an Olivier for his performances. For younger fans in particular, he has been a key figure in the renaissance of musical theater in this century. His death at the age of 48 is a terrible loss. We understand that full dimming is meant to be a rare thing. But special circumstances should be taken into account. The community’s sustained and profound outpouring of grief at his death—a testament not just to his youth but also to his character, his talent and his centrality in the Broadway world for the past 20 years—puts him in a different category. In 2018, theater owners made a similar mistake after the death of Marin Mazzie. They recognized their error then, and corrected it; she was honored with a full dimming. Stop the TikTok BanThe U.S. House has approved a bill that will effectively ban TikTok if Chinese company Bytedance does not divest the app. Over 100 million Americans use the social media app TikTok to be entertained, informed, and inspired. Yet, the United States government is threatening to ban it outright in a bipartisan overreach that ignores our freedom of speech. This is an overreach like nothing we have seen before. In addition, current legislation is written to circumvent the courts so that a ban cannot be challenged legally. The United States is a free country. We petition that the United States government work with TikTok and its parent company ByteDance to solve their concerns without taking away an app that provides so much enjoyment, education, and community for millions of Americans. Reverse/Change the Sept 23rd, 2024 Commander Ban List UpdateThis petition is to call for the Commander Rules Committee to reverse the actions made to the Commander Ban List on Sept 23rd 2024. The banning of Dockside Extortionist, Jeweled Lotus, Mana Crypt, and Nadu, Winged Wisdom. This format was originally designed by the players so they could play all of the cards they have spent their hard earned money on that were rotting away in a box. Not only that but cards people enjoy playing and that create a fun and unique play experience like no other format in Magic The Gathering. Plenty of people, myself included have multiple decks at different power levels. Some casual fun decks with wonky synergies (or lack thereof) to CEDH decks and everything in between as well. And that’s what makes this format so great! This DRASTICALLY changes the popular and recently growing format and community of Competitive EDH (CEDH) especially. The 10th anniversary of Stranger Things is on the horizon in 2026 , as well as the release of its final season. This is a monumental time for the show and its fans, and it should be celebrated accordingly. What better way than to re-release the Funko Stranger Things action figures – including the 2017 Convention exclusive three-pack with all three chase figures - and pay an epic tribute to this iconic show? Hasbro: Please make 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie' figuresIn 2022, Hasbro released "Power Rangers: Lightning Collection" figures of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in their Ninja Ranger uniforms and included alternate, unmasked civilian heads for each character. While these uniforms were on Season 3 of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", the Ninja Ranger uniforms originated in the live-action 1995 film 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie' by 20th Century Fox. Fans were hopeful that this would mean figures of the Power Rangers in their 1995 movie uniforms would be made next, but due to the film rights held by 20th Century Fox, now named 20th Century Studios, and the "Power Rangers: Lightning Collection" toyline itself currently on hiatus and possibly cancelled, it is unknown if figures of the Rangers from their 1995 theatrical film can be made. Since Hasbro has agreed to let Playmates Toys make "Power Rangers" toys beginning in 2025, we, the fans, would like to see Playmates try to make figures based on the 1995 'Power Rangers' movie. We, the fans, would like to see Playmates Toys, Hasbro and 20th Century Studios come to some kind of legal agreement that would allow Hasbro to make action figures of all six Rangers from 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie'. If Playmates Toys does make figures based on the 1995 'Power Rangers' movie, fans hope to see new six-inch figures made of all six Power Rangers with an alternate civilian head for each Ranger included and to, hopefully, make all-new toys of other characters from the film as well, such as Alpha 5, Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd, Goldar, Mordant, Dulcea, Ivan Ooze, Ivan's Ecto-Morphicon Titans, and of the Ninja Zords.

Oppose EBSCO's Proposed Rezoning and Support a Community-Based Entertainment DistrictThere are currently 18 undeveloped acres in the middle of the Tattersall site. This property has been zoned as solely for commercial purposes since the Greystone project was annexed into Hoover in 1989. Previous attempts to rezone for multi-family residential use have not succeeded. EBSCO is NOW seeking approval for a total of 307 residential units on these 18 acres. To do this it must obtain a conditional use approval from the City of Hoover. The proposal includes creation of: 170 “active adult residential units” 137 “market rate multi-family units” 125-room hotel 38,000 square feet of commercial buildings. Additionally: The maximum height of the buildings is FIVE stories. There are no details in the application of the size of the residential units, whether they will be rentals, condominiums or other ownership, the criterial for the “Active Adult” units other than an age 55 minimum, or whether the adult units will be subsidized. The commercial units are described as “boutique commercial space” with no other details. The 137 multi-family units are described as “market-rate” with no details of bedroom distribution. This is a GRAVE concern to our community, as it can potentially disrupt our living environment dramatically. The development is incompatible with our community's lifestyle and values. It threatens to increase traffic and put a strain on our local resources. The proposed change will NOT add to the value of our community. Current zoning regulations ensure balance between residential peace and functional community structures. The requested changes are not in line with that balance, and can lead to overpopulation problems and other related issues. A positive alternative? THOUGHTFUL & COMMUNITY MINDED DEVELOPMENT which includes a proposed entertainment district similar to what was built in Hoover, which would respect the lifestyle of our community and provide beneficial development. This successful model helped improve local economy and community interest in Hoover, without detrimentally affecting its residents or the character of the neighborhood.It's time for us to say no to thoughtless and money-driven community development that can negatively affect our neighborhood and its serene living conditions.
