Chesterfield were made to wait to have their promotion from the National League confirmed as second-placed Barnet beat Eastleigh to tighten their grip on second place.
The Spireites, who are now 21 points clear at the top with seven games remaining, would have been promoted on Tuesday had the Bees failed to win.
But Paul Cook's side can get the point they need to win the title when they travel to FC Halifax Town on Wednesday.
First-half goals from Dale Gorman and Gatlin O'Donkor earned Barnet their success over the relegation-threatened Spitfires.
Captain Gorman set the promotion-chasing Bees on course to move four points clear of third-placed Bromley with a stunning strike from distance in the 18th minute.
On-loan Oxford forward O'Donkor doubled Barnet's advantage with a fine 38th-minute volley.
Chris Maguire halved the deficit before the break by running half the length of the pitch to finish a counter-attack, but 18th-placed Eastleigh remain just three points above the drop zone following a fourth game without a win.
