See the title above. Protagonist who can do no wrong wanders the US and Russia and stuff happens but she seems to always know when it will and get away. She gets tortured and possibly has a hysterectomy but is totally fine after all of that - NBD.

Story
The previous edition of this now-classic book revealed the existence and subversive manipulations of "economic hit men". John Perkins wrote that economic hit men (EHM) "are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder".

Worlds most boring “spy” novel.
Reviewed: 11-06-22
Skip the lame stories about a guy who got rich and now feels guilty about it.
Here is the book - American corporations go to developing nations, wildly inflate their potential economic growth to get those countries hooked into giant loans they can’t pay off. The USA then comes in and takes all the natural resources until they are all out. They keep these things super quiet.
Occasionally if the countries say no then people get assassinated.
Organized crime does the same thing with local businesses.
The writer imagined himself to be some kind of big deal spy and retconns some “I’ll take them down from the inside” stuff into the story. I probably would too if I were him.
Save yourself the credit.

Predictable except when humans don’t act the way humans act.

See above. The characters in this book don’t make choices the way humans do. Lots of plot holes and just kind of superficial all around. Neat idea - I like a good sci-fi story but just really really basic.
RC Bray was great as always.

See above. There are about 20 pages that actually discuss liminal thinking. The rest is just repeat boring stuff from other motivational books.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Probably not unless you were just looking so a slow, slow, slow, slow book to keep you occupied on a drive across country.
Would you be willing to try another book from Neal Stephenson? Why or why not?
Yup. I've read most of his other stuff which is better than this.
How could the performance have been better?
Stop doing the male voices. They are terrible. Her regular voice is just fine. Just use that. I don't need the awful awful awful voices.
Could you see Seveneves being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Probably. It is just boring/not inventive enough to happen. I don't care who.
Any additional comments?
Read his other stuff and skip this. SO MANY EXPLANATIONS. Essentially people do things in this book so they can be explained.

What did you love best about Mindset?
The concept. I agree with the ideas behind the book and love hearing about it.
What was most disappointing about Carol Dweck’s story?
Holy crap we get it. Some guy was fixed mindset and bad and another guy was growth and good. Enough. 4-5 examples are plenty. Not 1000 of the same. And maybe deal with some grey a bit - everything is written as this or that.
What three words best describe Marguerite Gavin’s voice?
Plain. Plain. Plain.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No.

Narrator is great - the kind that makes you look for other books they've read just because you enjoyed him so much.
