Day 1
Set up was pretty easy. Download the app and register, same as everything else.
Adding cameras and the sync module is a matter of selecting on the app and scanning the QR code on the device, allow the wifi, and change settings as desired. I plugged everything in to set up at the table, unplugged to position it, and everything came back online without issue once it was plugged in at its final location.
Video quality isn’t anything special, but it’s not awful. You get what you pay for. Same with the audio. It gets the job done, so far. I do have a couple minor critiques, but I’ll save those for later updates as I get used to the system.
My goal for these cameras was a test, for the price they seem fitting. If you want professional, look elsewhere. If they work well overall, great!
I’ll be playing with settings more as time goes on and updates are to follow along. Day, night, motion, etc are to be tested.
One big note is the delay. It’s a good 1-3 second delay. The app does alert if you have it set, but I can easily walk by a camera and it won’t capture enough.
For context, I’m running a few Mini2s, doorbell, and sync2 module with added usb storage. I have a different camera brand testing as well, which is much more responsive.
Only WiFi that it would connect to is 2.4GHtz
Tl;dr. You get what you pay for. It’s not bad so far but it’s not the best out there. Updates to come.
After playing with the cameras for the day, I dislike that the main dashboard is just a thumbnail pic you set for each camera, it’s not a live view. And it’s takes several seconds to update once you select a device.
Notifications are slow, several second delay, and then the delay of the app updating to a delayed live feed, seems to be upward or 10 seconds or more. And, in that time, you can miss something.
The other brand camera I’m testing costs more, but is more responsive.
Each brand takes some playing with to dial in sensitivity settings, but they both have a way to block out areas of the image (streets, etc).
More to come…
Yeah, not a fan of the homepage being just a defult screenshot of the camera view that you set initially, rather than an actual view of the current image. The delay to load into a live feed, and it’s delayed a few seconds, is upward of 10 seconds off for it to load and stream, including the delay time.
Cheap system, cheap performance.
The delay is bad and what is ‘motion detected’ to trigger recording is iffy.
I walked out to bring the trash cans in, having a relatively long driveway, 4 cars long fit easily before the sidewalk, and the camera didn’t start recording and didn’t notify until I was basically already back in the garage, only capturing a second or two of actual motion.
System didn’t notify at all of cars pulling in the driveway, no recording or notification. Amazon van, delivery driver, nothing. But, it’ll sure pick up a reflection in the window or bug flying by.
Motion detection is sub par and varies on what it decides to pick up. Cars on the next block, sure, neighbor and their dog running around, nope (even in view of two cameras at the same time).
Settings are at high sensitivity and no areas blocked off.
Audio quality isn’t great, definitely digitized and overworked. It works, but it’s not great at all.
Example: camera in a room with nothing running, door closed, sounds like some syfi computer calculations picking up ambient noises.
Again, testing two different brands and the other is winning so far, you get what you pay for. Cheap cameras, cheap performance.
Not great.
It works, good enough, yes, but they’re cheap for a reason, plus all the invasive data stuff from Amazon
