An Action Film With Plenty Of Human Interest

A very enjoyable film. As a long time supporter of the UFW, I liked seeing a pro-workers drama with a grower who was neither pro or anti union. I also enjoyed the off road truck driving sequences. My only criticism involves continuity during the sequence where Majestyk returns home with the empty trailer. He parks by the house, with the right side of the truck next to the house. He unhooks the trailer, then disappears. We learn that the house is surrounded by mobsters, and we hear some of their conversations about Majestyk not being able to get out of the house. However, when next we see the truck, it is pointed toward the road, with the left side next to the house, and the trailer is no where to be seen. Huh??? The Continuity Specialist goofed. Only those of us who really watch a film would notice. I made a similar observation in my review of the The Big Sleep, but then I really pay attention to vehicles. I learned to drive one-lane mountain roads, driving a pickup truck.

Other than dragging on much too long, this is a fairly good everyman versus evil film. It merits the three stars mostly for the cast. The late, great Al Lettieri is always fun to watch and he has plenty of screen time. Bronson plays his usual character, just with a different name. The bulk of the action is Bronson trying to get his watermelon crop in while dealing with the bad guys who want to stop him. It goes on much too long, though. You may be worn out by the time the climactic scene takes place. I know I was. Still, not a bad film, but not a great one either.

Amazon still says it's on the way and running late. It arrived long ago. I've already received my refund and bought a region 1 copy.

The biggest jerk in the film is the so-called protagonist. Ungrateful, misogynistic, dull. Hard to root for a guy you hope gets killed early, so this wast-of-time film ends. Some of the most perplexing, idiotic writing and direction. Now, who will repay me the time I have lost on this dog?

I have not gotten a chance to see this dvd because I didn't know there were "regions" and apparently I got a dvd that won't play in America. Bummer for me. Now I have to purchase a real dvd, but this is why I rate this poorly. My advise before you all purchase a dvd, beware of the regions (region 2). It won't play in America.
