Who is most at risk of drowning?

Jun 10, 2022

DID YOU KNOW – Every year in Canada just over 400 drownings occur.

Who is most at risk of drowning

“Age 17-24: Most people this age overestimate their abilities & take more risks that could potentially cause injury or drowning”

Lifesaving Society Canada / Société de sauvetage

This water season, remember your on-water safety gear:

• PFD – Everyone on board needs a Canada approved PFD of appropriate size

• Sound Signalling device – A pealess whistle meets this requirement and many PFDs come with one included.

• Heaving line: at least 15m long. SUPs & sit-on-top kayaks are exempt, as long as everyone on board is wearing approved PFD.

• Watertight Flashlight – If your craft is more than 6m long (like many double kayaks & expedition canoes)you’ll need a watertight flashlight.
