William Tong

William Morten Tong Chinese: 湯偉麟(born c. 1973) serves as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives. First elected in November 2006, he represents the 147th district, which includes parts of Stamford and New Canaan. Geographically the 147th is the largest district in Stamford, and includes Westover, North Stamford, Scofieldtown, as well as the western side of New Canaan.

Tong is the first Asian American to serve in the Connecticut General Assembly, and the first Asian American to be elected at the state level in Connecticut's history. He is the Vice-Chairman of the Energy and Technology committee and serves on the General Law and Judiciary committees.

Tong was the first Connecticut legislator to endorse then-Senator Barack Obama for President.

Family history

William's father, Ady, came to Hartford, Connecticut to look for work as a cook in a Chinese restaurant. He met William's mother Nancy, and had five children, William and his four sisters. William attended public and private schools in West Hartford. He graduated from Phillips Academy Andover and in 1995 from Brown University with honors, and after the University of Chicago Law School.

William Tong (minister)

William Tong (1662–1727) was an English Presbyterian minister, at the heart of the subscription debate of 1718.

Life

He was born on 24 June 1662, probably at Eccles near Manchester, where his father (a relative of Robert Warton Hall) was buried. His mother was early left a widow with three children. Tong began his education with a view to the law, but his mother's influence turned him to the ministry. He entered the Rathmell Academy of Richard Frankland, then at Natland, on 2 March 1681, and was Frankland's most distinguished student.

Early in 1685 he was licensed to preach. For two years he acted as chaplain in Shropshire to Thomas Corbet of Stanwardine and Rowland Hunt of Boreatton, becoming acquainted with Philip Henry. Until threatened with prosecution, he preached occasionally at the chapel of Cockshut, in the parish of Ellesmere. At the beginning of March 1687 he took a three months' engagement at Chester, pending the arrival of Matthew Henry. His services were conducted, noon and night, in the house of Anthony Henthorn; and were so successful that they were then transferred to a large outbuilding.

While I'm Waiting

by: Steve Miller

I left my message on your number
In hopes that you might call
Riding high on good intentions
Still hanging on the wall
Although my words were never all too
Clear it's understood
It's never too late to say in other ways
Something in our lives we'll rearrange
More than just your call on holiday
Ring me up, don't bring me down
Don't let me hear you won't
Come through tonight
Ring me up, don't bring me down
You know this lonely heart stands by me
While I'm waiting
Remembering how it came together
The meaning in your eyes
Now words fall out like perfect strangers
We both apologize
In all this time I thought I knew you
And over looked somehow the reasons why
You kept inside Ring me up, don't bring me down
Don't let me hear you won't
Come through tonight
This lonely heart stands by me
While I'm waiting
Ring me up, don't bring me down
Don't let me hear you won't
Come through tonight
Ring me up, don't bring me down
Here's hoping the days gone by we'll see again
This lonely heart stands by and I'm still waiting
Ooh still waiting
Ooh still waiting
