The company was founded in 2006 by Vadim Tkachenko[1] and Peter Zaitsev,[2] and its headquarters is in Pleasanton, California. The company provides database consultancy and development to customers including the BBC, Groupon, RightNow Technologies, Answers.com and 37signals.[3]
In November 2012, the telecommunications company Telefónica announced that Joyent appliances with Percona Server would be used for its cloud computing service Instant Servers.[4][5]
In December 2012, Percona, SkySQL and The Monty Program AB, led by MySQL's creator Monty Widenius, announced the formation of the MariaDB Foundation to oversee the development of MariaDB.[6][7]
