I’ve been a teacher for most of my life, in many places and in many ways.
A writer, too.  And always, a learner.

This site is a means of sharing – outside of a classroom and without the need for proximity of time or place.  A means of crystallizing and of constellating my thinking, feeling, seeing.
And, perhaps, of helping others do the same.

More about my life as a teacher and a learner appears in the essays in  On Teaching, nested in the Teaching category.  Much more to be added to that category — only the syllabi are there now, and only those from the past few years.

The writing that is now emerging, as a glad result of having finally begun this site, appears in the Writing category.

Other writing, some of it from long ago and far away, appears in the nested section, Early Writing.  It will take some time to complete that section, but at least – and at last – a gathering place exists.

Each day, a Quotation with an accompanying photograph is posted on the Home Page.  To find posts from previous days, check either the Quotations category or the Archives on the Home Page.  To see an alphabetical listings of all the sources, together with the date or dates on which their words were posted, check the Source Index page (nested under Quotations in the top Menu bar). To see only the quotations, without the accompanying photographs, go directly to the Quotations page – they are listed there in order of posting, from the first to the most recent.

The quotations posted each day are accompanied by my own photography (with just a few exceptions – one of Pablo Casals, one of Oliver Sacks, and a few by family members).  Some of these photographs have also made their way into the Photography section, along with others that only appear there.  Each is accompanied by some words, but in those posts, the words are my own.

The Travel section is under slow but steady construction, a bit like Chicago in the summer, or San Francisco all the time.  Past travels await posting;  new ones are soon to begin.

The Recommended category populates itself each day in my imagination, but only has one entry so far.  That will change, in time.

The Reading category exists now only as promising placeholder.  There is so much I plan to place there.  All in good time.  And that’s a good old-fashioned phrase with which to close this very modern sort of tour.
