My profile is the best place to get introductory information about me! I thought I would add a sticky post for people who'd like to say hello or ask me something. I find it very handy when people have something like that up so I can introduce myself when I subscribe - not that you have to! Just adding the option.

Welcome to this journal :) I usually talk about the writing process, creativity and fandom. Mostly fandom in general but also sometimes the specific fandoms I'm into, in which Boku No Hero Academia and Hawks feature heavily these days. I write fic as

As expected the pacing check didn't really do anything as a pacing check lolsob. The new bits were super fun and the old bits kinda felt draggy. However I have Thoughts regardless! Also I waited to have a 4h block of time to read but tat wasn't enough orz I think it took over a little 5h to reread overall, for 56k words - just noting this down as a reminder for my future self.

I wanted to just "jot down a few notes" but I'm gonna have to use headers again. Whoops. This got long.

Also: as much as doing a full reread at once appeals, postponing over and over until such a magical block of time manifests isn't reasonable. This is kinda funny to relearn because this used to be a source for writing block for me back in my early writing days (wayyy back). I had to wait until I had a Big Chunk Of Free Time for focus reasons. Things have gotten a lot happier for me since I learnt how to write in 30 minutes (or sometimes 15 minutes!) blocks, and also that doesn't preclude the occasional delightful Big Chunk Of Writerly Time from happening either.

Full reread good for some things, even if not for pacing exactly

Otherwise, the full reread was good to see how the changes hold together. While a rewritten scene toward the end does need a bit more air, the first half where I did the bulk of the work imo flow super well. While I can see the seams where I attached the old to the new, it's mostly because I remember the old version(s). I'm just really really enjoying what the story is turning into. I was a bit worried because when reworking stuff, you can also see what it no longer is and no longer says, but whatever it is now, it sure is something I like :D The chapter that many beta-readers said felt too long, and which is now nearly twice as long, didn't drag at all for me. It's hard to tell if it's because I care too much already about these characters, or because a lot of was rewritten and therefore falsely feels more fresh to my brain, but that's what valiant beta-readers will help me find out soon enough :D

And with this, we're caught up with the 3 volumes that are out! Very few bonus sketches in this one, instead they used/reused extra panels as if to extend the chapters. Like a close-up on hands, or on a face, or an apple to go with all the Eve and Eden imagery, etc. The effect looks neat when reading, though I do kinda miss getting the cute bonus scenes and sketches!

Wrote most of this during the blergh days last week. I started this Hugging series while touch-starved during the covid lockdowns, but there's something grounding about focusing on the senses like these fics usually do. It helps.

Obviously a sense of grounding also adds to the angst considering Hawks can fly and what Dabi does to his wings later in canon, but! The baked-in angst is part of their charm and appeal ;)

Reached a couple of milestones yesterday, and I'm mentally basically ready to shift back into working on my original projects. Just trying to remember where I'm at with everything. Also cool milestone alert!

Milestone alert: GYWO monthly goal for January, reached! ;)

With my pledge, I should write 12.5k words a month, and now I'll have reached it at least once this year!! It feels really good to start the year being on track. As much as Time Is A Construct, I think I should be careful not to set myself up for big editing projects in January in the future, in general.

I'm so surprised that over 5k of that was for a Spring Thunder fic. Like. I do write freely for tiny fandoms! But usually it's more like coughing out a vignette or a missing scene, or a tiny fix-it to deal with canon stress. Not a full hurt/comfort rescue mission. In the end though, I wrote it for the same reasons I wrote those shorter vignettes in the past: it feels good :D It feels right. It was fun. AND I get to reread and enjoy something tailored to my id in the future :D I was delighted with myself by the end of the first draft, hopefully that'll hold when I return to it for edits :D

For my last 600 words to reach the milestone yesterday, I wrote something for Wind Breaker that will probably be invalidated by a new manga chapter next week. I'd like to clean that up and post it so there's a chance it can be enjoyed as-is for a few days before becoming canon divergent XD
Not really time-sensitive, but I want to post a couple of BNHA fics to get them out of my mind. One was written a couple of years ago for a collaborative project that never quite completed its landing and I think it's long enough. I need to free my mind of it before I forget it even exists.

Currently spending a few days with a(n otherwise lovely) person whose approach to "keeping informed" doesn't jibe with mine, and I Am Not Thriving! \o/

So a bunch of happy things:

1. Someone in my Dreamwidth circles shared delightful, gorgeous fanart an artist made of their fic. This reminded me of meeting an old fandom friend again after several years. At some point, we were looking at each other's phone background because what was it? A cute pet picture maybe? A partner or kid photo? Nope! It's art that we were lucky to receive for our respective stories! Haha. What a gift. She used a stunning scene based on a Yuri on Ice fic of hers, and mine is this peaceful, joyful piece from

fluffyblaire for the Sheep Farming AU.

2. Woke up too early, but I got 30 minutes of cat cuddles for my trouble!! Biscuits then full purring engines the whole way through. She's resting against my foot now, using it as support while she begins the daily ablutions.

3. I'm writing a hurt/comfort fic for Spring Thunder that is scratching exactly the right kind of id for me right now. I can barely explain why except that it just works and it's like immersing myself in a rose bath every time I go back (*). And the advantage of waking up too early is that I should get to spend a couple of hours in there before getting on with the rest of the day!

(*) DISCLAIMER: I have never taken a rose bath. I imagine it to be gently scented, but not overwhelmingly so. The bath water would be Just Right the entire time, too. The petals would stay artfully placed above the water as well.

4. Hm... Can I get to 5? I would like to get to 5. I would also like to write, though. Let's pretend I'm holding onto the other two for SUSPENSE! Oh no wait I have another one: I had a tasty cup of coffee while I was gearing up for wakefulness, and now I'm going to brew a delicious cup of tea before settling in with words in my mental sanctuary.

5. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED A HAPPY JOYFUL THING MAY BE MENTIONED LATER WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT

I'm really happy with how this one turned out. I like writing about grief, it often feels cathartic. Sprinkle insomnia on top as a bonus.

Also, while I did expect Akira/No.9 to be a new tag, I'm surprised Akira/Isao didn't exist either. Their story reads as Endeavor/quirkless!Hawks to me!

1. If there was a K-9 comm, I would post stuff like the translations there. And if there were like at least TWO just two other Dreamwidthers as much into it as I am, I'd go for it and create it. But most people I got my claws into are on Discord only/mainly, and thus so it goes. I don't have it in me right now to create another comm where I end up doing most of the posting XD But it's funny to imagine creating a weekly reaction post for the new chapter, then the only reply is a self-reply of me losing my shit on my own. Actually not that far from reality really. I shall continue monitoring the Dreamwidth K-9 temperature XD

2. I'm posting a lot right now both here and on AO3, but I assume it will all go very quiet again once I return to working on the novel(la)s?? Takes longer to form insights and also no finished projects to share heh.

3. I am thinking about those original projects again, which is good!! Unfortunately my mind is looking for wider, very high-level themes unifying the drafts of every original novella/novel I ever finished and oh my god I found it and I need to stop thinking about it or I will never write again. Feels like strolling down main street in my underwear even just mentally.

4. You! Do you write fic? Are you suffering reception anxiety after posting?? Try This One Neat Trick: read or watch something obscure, then create a new AO3 fandom tag for it and write! Obviously, I'd like to connect with readers, but there's also something liberating to posting something that has a single digit audience at best. Possibly literally, as in max one digit on one hand XD

5. A friend gifted me a really cute 2026 planner late last year. It's about the size of my palm. I knew I wasn't gonna use it for my actual TODOs because incredibly, my Bullet Journal system is still working super well for me, and as cute as it is it would be a downgrade. I thought I'd use it for something writing-related, since writing is happy-inducing and so is this little planner thing but... I can't figure out what, still T_T I thought I might jot down notes on what projects I do or times or word counts, but that feels like a chore and not joy-sparky. I'm already tracking the few writing stats I'm actually interested in. And now we're mid-January and every day is a missed page opportunity and I still don't know what to use it for orz Suggestions welcome! Even if not writing related at this point. I guess maybe I could do a gratitude journal...? I like to do that randomly in my paper journal though, rather than on command daily. Hmmmm.

Summary: Seducing the vengeful spirits of wronged women didn't seem like a bad plan, considering Kagaribi's background and how no one else had offered a better idea. It is, however, not going well, and the two people that Kagaribi is definitely not falling in love with are doing nothing to help.

Where am I at with all the projects? Definitely nowhere I thought I'd be in early December. Let's have a look at the "vague current plan" back then:

...Actually that's it I did nothing else on that list, and half the rest will have to change. In fairness, I knew all the sequel-related stuff would have to be temporarily shelved about a week later: I was deep in the kn8 edits, and could tell it would take longer than anticipated. I wanted the time away from the witch so my subconscious could ✨ work its magic ✨ about the remaining problems, but once most of the story left my "active" memory, outlining or planning a sequel felt nearly impossible.

Then K-9 happened. Lol. I mean, this was and continues to be fun, and I'm surfing that delightful fandom wave for as long as I can. 🏄 Did I mention our fandom tag was canonised? Teeheehee.

I'm writing a lot of short fics in too many fandoms and I think that's doing me good for now. Mostly because I want to keep myself distracted away from *waves wildly*. It means I'm rereading manga chapters here and there, rewatching episodes bits. I'm still reading a lot of new manga at the moment, and unfortunately feeling fannish about more and more of the tiniest, non-existent fandoms. It's just!! There's so much awesome polyship potential everywhere!!!! They just huh write themselves, or should!!!!! Or I wish someone else did so I could just read it... XD At least, a few of them have English translations out there so maybe some readers will have the same vision and eventually find the fic, but there's also a BL horror manga (the true monster isn't really the creature...) that doesn't, despite calling my name and whispering OT3 into my head louder and louder....... Ah well. Fan does as fan must.

But anyway! Writing short is doing me good, I think, and writing varied too. But I still have plans for the big original projects:

I want/must do the pacing check for the cursed witch in January. At the very, very least, do the full re-read and take notes on where to break down the new chapters. But ideally I'd like to do that work itself, too, because...
...I signed up for an editing course/workshop/cheeralong in February and I plan to begin ~~again~~ the structural edits for the soul thief then. I'm hoping the peer support/challenge will help me get past the "blergh I already did 2/3 of this before but stopped at an awkward point." It's been a year now, so hopefully the reset will work out ok...

But I'd really like to have this round of Cursed Witch edits feel like they're a better shape, with chapters properly broken down and cliffhangerised. Also I hope to keep writing ficlets as a pressure valve for launching myself into yet another MASSIVE EDITING/BIG LENGTH round.

That's the current plan! Let's see in a month how it totally didn't work out that way!! XD
