When video first went digital, there were a lot of video formats that came with it. These days, the most common video format is the MPEG-4 Part 14 container — otherwise known as the MP4 — but there are many other video formats you may encounter. The Vimeo player supports most video formats, including MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, and FLV.

When we talk about video "quality," we're referring to the number of pixels that can be contained in the standard video aspect ratio of 16:9. The Vimeo player currently supports video qualities of up to 8K — which has a display resolution width of approximately 8,000 pixels. With that said, the "best" video quality can be a bit of a subjective term, as it depends on your internet bandwidth and device.

If you have a video stored locally on your computer, and you don't have any software that can play it, you can always try opening the file in your internet browser. Simply drag the video file into the address bar of your internet browser, and — voila — the video should play.
