Born on this day… Wilhelm Wagenfeld April 15, 1900, Bremen, was an important German industrial designer and former student of the Bauhaus art school. He designed glass and metal works for the Jenaer Glaswerk Schott & Gen., the Vereinigte Lausitzer Glaswerke in Weißwasser, Rosenthal, Braun GmbH and WMF. Knoll’s Wassily lounge chair is a Bauhaus classic designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925. A student of the Bauhaus school himself, Breuer was a pioneer in designing furniture made from tubular steel – according to Breuer, the bent steel design was based on the frame of a bicycle.
