As we continue to honour Black History Month, we take a moment to celebrate the incredible contributions of Black British role models who have shaped our society and continue to inspire future generations. From breaking barriers in leadership, arts, sports, and politics, their stories reflect resilience, excellence, and the power of representation. Names like Edward Enniful OBE, Dean Forbes and Syreeta Brown, FCIPD CMgr CCMI stand tall as beacons of change, advocacy, and leadership. They remind us that representation matters and that everyone can make a lasting impact. Rupert Gibb, Partner with our Financial Services practice at Warren Partners | Certified B Corp, was delighted to once again be invited to present at The Non-Executive Directors’ Seminar (part of the Cranfield Executive Development Programme) this week. During the three-day networking event, aspiring non-executives networked and were given the tools and advice to prepare themselves in taking their first steps towards plural/portfolio careers. Topics covered included: Board related market trends, preparation/’top-tips’ in how to secure a non-executive position; and how to go about building mutually beneficial partnerships with the headhunting community. Privileged to engage with the high-profile peer executive course attendees and hugely grateful to Ian W., Programme Director, and his team for such a warm welcome. Warren Partners | Certified B Corp looks forward to further strengthening our involvement with the Cranfield Executive Development Programme and in continuing to play our part in futureproofing the Boards of ‘UK plc’. Progress Together have launched their new report, #ShapingTheSector. Their key finding...socio-economic diversity in financial services is improving slowly but there’s more to be done. As a supporter of Progress Together, we’re working to make financial services more inclusive for everyone, regardless of where they started out in life. Creating an inclusive culture is good for individuals, good for business and good for the economy. Warren Partners | Certified B Corp recently held a webinar in partnership with Progress Together to explore why hiring and retaining diverse socio-economic talent is ‘good for business’ and how an intersectional approach can positively impact a business-wide strategy. We were joined by leading FS board members and executives who were keen to learn more about social mobility and how they can contribute towards making the sector inclusive for all. You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ecKxT9Fb #ShapingTheSector #ProgressTogether #SocialMobility

Sunshine and showers in the City last week, but the conversation was anything but gloomy as our MD, Kirsty Middleton Dougan, and FS Practice (Sally Dunwoody, Rupert Gibb and Julia Fearn) hosted an energetic group of GCs and Co Secs for another successful Warren Partners breakfast roundtable! 🎤 Huge thanks to Joanna Nayler and Fergus Speight for leading the lively discussion! We dove into the following key topics: 💡 Should Co Secs play a key role in NED selection: interviews/induction/onboarding (100% yes!) 💡 How can we boost the internal brand profile of the Co Sec function? (Start highlighting the function's importance at the entry level!) 💡 As a Co Sec, how do we secure our strategic influence? (Be intentional, own your space, and let others stress over the temperature of the orange juice!) And newsflash: It’s your career, no one’s coming to save you! So, if you want to have strategic influence, act like a strategic influencer! ✨ Key takeaway? It's time for a title makeover! "Company Secretary" isn't cutting it - our favourite alternative: Chief Governance Officer! What do you think? Share your ideas below! 👇 #Governance #Leadership #CoSec #Roundtable #ChiefGovernanceOfficer

Black History Month UK has announced its 2024 theme: Reclaiming Narratives. This theme emphasises the importance of Black communities taking control of their own stories, challenging the misrepresentations and oversimplifications that have often shaped their history. By emphasising “Reclaiming Narratives,” we can shine a brighter light on stories, allegories, and history. We look forward to following Black History Month and #ReclaimingNarratives throughout October! Let’s unite in “Reclaiming Narratives” and forge a future where the true essence of Black history, contribution and presence is rightfully recognised.
