Some feel they represent your skills and expertise, and some are of the opinion that they are irrelevant and that it's your accomplishments that define your role. October marks the start of Black History Month in the UK - an important time to remember the struggles and triumphs of Black History in society. In the UK, Black History Month encourages people to learn more about Britain's colonial history, which is often not taught in school. From the Romans to the modern-day, discover a timeline of black British history through the stories of trailblazing individuals and era-defining events. Until recently, many of the histories of Black people in Britain have been hidden or overlooked. Yet it is hard to tell Britain's history without including those stories. For all of us to understand where we are, and how we got here, it's clear we need to understand the history. And that must include the contribution of Africans and their descendants to the story of the entire world. These timelines celebrate some of those stories: of world-shaping individuals and momentous events. This is not about creating a separate history; it is about adding to the history we are already familiar with. This timeline is intended to provide information about a selection of significant events and people who have impacted Black British history and take the time to recognise and appreciate key figures and events in black history, as well as look at black history and current movements throughout the tech industry. Through education, dialogue, and action, we can all play a part in creating a more inclusive society and industry.
