This week, in Rio de Janeiro, the Civil20 Summit officially opened, marking another significant milestone in Brazil’s ongoing efforts to strengthen civil society’s role in global policy discussions. The event saw the participation of Brazil’s First Lady, Janja Lula da Silva. During the opening ceremony, representatives from various key organisations and community groups handed over a communique that consolidated the recommendations from C20’s ten working groups. After months of hard work, ADI is pleased to see the C20 Communique feature multiple prominent mentions highlighting the unique needs of people living with dementia throughout the document. With over 55 million people currently living with dementia—a number expected to rise to 139 million by 2050—it’s essential for governments to take action to better support those living with dementia and carers. Next week Brazil will also host the G20 summit, convening 20 of the world's largest economies under the theme of 'Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet'. It is vital that the G20 takes note of this document and shows leadership on this issue. In collaboration with ADI's Regional Director for the Americas, Diego Aguilar, we extend our gratitude to ADI member Federação Brasileira das Associações de Alzheimer and Febraz President Elaine Mateus for their dedication to this process, alongside our other civil society partners. #G20 #C20 #RiodeJaneiro #Brazil

Breaking news coming from EMA's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, recommending the granting of marketing authorisation of Lequembi (Lecanamab). The CHMP concluded that the benefits of Leqembi outweigh the risks in patients with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease with one or no copy of ApoE4. Leqembi will be available through a controlled access programme to ensure that the medicine is only used in the recommended patient population. We look forward to further news from EMA regarding this latest recommendation. #DementiaTreatment #AlzheimersTreatment

After days of visits and meetings finally the 27th conference of our Asia Pacific Regional Office and the annual conference of Alzheimer’s Disease Chinese opens! 700 participants from 16 countries. Some shots from my opening speech, interviews and the plenary opening presentation which focused on how Alzheimer's Disease International contributes to raising awareness and knowledge for each of the 7 areas of the a global dementia action plan, Lee-Fay Low spoke immediately after me emphasising the need of people living with dementia as advocates in China ( note the slide about how language matters and the need to change the lexicon around the disease in China, yes I know it’s hard but Japan did it so why not China? ) and Mr Li Zhenrong spoke of his own experience as a caregiver in Xi’an. In China?) can be applied for cognitive stimulation. Lots of fun but all very educational too ( ah and we got some lovely tea and cakes) Alzheimer's Disease International Meera Pattabiraman DY Suharya Diego Aguilar Jason Foo Huali Wang
