Kelly Welk on Instagram: "I know it sounds ridiculous, pinching! 🤣 the first time an old timer, told me to do this with our Dahlias I thought he was crazy. Cut the top of the plant off? How in the world could that help it? There is actual science behind this! When certain plants are pinched, it sends them into a survival mode and it causes them to come back stronger and produce more flowers. These two shoots they send up will put on double the amount of blooms. 🥳

Now disclaimer, this method doesn’t work for all flowers just some like dahlias, zinnias, snapdragons, sweet peas, larkspur, salvia…and herbs too like Basil and Mint

Idlewild Blooms | Dahlia Farm on Instagram: "My best tips for newbies… 💗 Buy dahlia varieties that make you happy even if they aren’t popular. Some of my favorites are inexpensive. 💗 Get a variety of sizes and forms. This gives you good texture in bouquets. 💗 It’s okay to plant them close (12 inches is what I do) as long as you cut them a lot! 💗 Fertilize them regularly with nitrogen balanced fertilizer when they are young. This makes for big happy plants. You can lay off the fertilizer once they are blooming. 💗 Give them lots of support so they don’t fall over. I use the corral method because it works well for long rows with lots of plants. 💗 Attend your local dahlia society meetings and make some friends with people who have grown them for years. You’ll learn lots! 💗 Don’t take it Wildflowers In Yard, Dahlia Trellis, Dahlia Flower Garden Landscapes, Dahlia In Garden, Dahlia Flower Bed, Dahlia Staking Ideas, Dahlia Garden Landscaping, Dahlia Support Ideas, Dahlia Support
