A very clever grower near Philadelphia, Jennie Love, got us into it a while back, as she has successfully overwintered her dahlias for years now, and has spoken about it extensively in her blog and brilliant podcast. If you have good drainage, and don’t need to pull the dahlia clump (eg to move it, divide it, etc), just keep it in the ground! It saves on labour and storing dahlias can often be the trickiest aspect of dahlia care. And… the perks are numerous. We have several gorgeous varieties available in our shop and can ship them to you! We’re in the PNW, growing zone 8-9, and we’re just now planting our tubers. In about 3 weeks this bed will be full of little dahlia shoots, and in about 8 weeks we’ll have our first blooms. They’ll bloom all the way until the first freeze, producing bucketfuls of blooms every week until then!
