What if mermaids could hide inside their tail? As if the they were the tongue of a fish, hiding on the inside when swimming, showing on the outside when attracting sailors?

I created a mermaid concept for my next illustration. According to my idea, she lives near a lake village and often sails there to observe people’s lives.
