Textlocal began in the spare bedroom of its founder Alistair Shortland in 2005 when he sold the first of many SMS credit bundles. Within just three years the 10,000th Textlocal account was opened and by May 2012 we had 5,000 active daily users of the system.
Since our launch, Textlocal has been helping businesses solve their communication challenges, using our market-leading business mobile messaging SaaS platform – Textlocal Messenger.
In 2012, the next generation of our SMS solution was launched, Messenger 2.0. The updated platform offered a wide range of new services including forms, attachments, vouchers and campaign management tools to measure effectiveness. Additional evolutions of Messenger followed to include integration and automation functionalities.
Following the success of our Messenger platform in the UK, we soon expanded and established the leading SMS solution in Spain and India with dedicated teams to support our international customer base. We then went on to release Messenger 3.0 in 2015.
The success of this expansion was recognised by the wider industry and in 2014, Textlocal was acquired by imimobile, a global mobile technology company. Since then, under the leadership of Managing Director Jason Palgrave-Jones, we have continued building our international footprint, leveraging imimobile’s integration with mobile operators across 60 countries.
It didn’t stop there! In 2021, our parent company imimobile was acquired by Cisco. We are very excited to now be part of one of the world’s leading technology companies.
