Administrator access is granted to known and trusted members of the community who are familiar with the policies of Wikispecies. Administrator access is not meant to imply editorial authority on the project.

You can request adminship on Wikispecies if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are not completely new to Wikimedia projects. You have been an editor for at least 2 months and you understand and agree with the goals of the project.
  • You have a user page on Wikispecies and are a contributor here.
  • You agree to follow relevant policies and respect consensus of Wikispecies' users.
  • There is a consensus amongst users here that you would be a suitable administrator.

As with the policy for administrator access on Meta, inactive administrators may have their access removed.

Administrators

An administrator is simply a trusted user that can:

  • Protect and unprotect pages
  • Delete and undelete pages
  • Delete images and other uploaded files
  • Block and unblock users
  • Edit the interface and other protected pages

Past requests

Requests for adminship / bureaucratship

Please explain here why you need administrator or bureaucrat access. After seven days, if there is general agreement that you should be an administrator or bureaucrat, one of the bureaucrats will fulfill the request. You can use {{subst:RFA|Username|Why you want to be a sysop}} when making a request to automatically create the form.

I seem to be the only editor here in bryophytes and algae, and am noticing just how many deletions/moves will be needed to upate taxonomy of the liverworts and mosses. I am already a primary contributor for these groups on Wikipedia (see e.g. w:Jungermanniales, w:Metzgeriales, w:Moss, w:Phaeophyceae, and their subpages) and set up almost all of the WS pages on the Phaeophyceae (brown algae). I believe in coordinating between Wikispecies, Wikipedia, and Commons, so that information on all three is consistent. I have been a contributor to the English Wikipedia since 2005 and an admin there since 2007. I have been an admin on the English Wiktionary since 2006, and that is where I spend most of my time (editing English, Latin, and Galician entries... so I know some Latin too).

I took a B.S. degree in Biology with an emphasis in botanical systematics. I have worked (for pay) in two herbaria, and worked (without pay) in another. I created the current liverwort filing system for the bryophyte herbarium at Duke University, and did half the liverwort specimen reorganization, filing, and synonymization for UC (at Berkeley). I have also worked (as a volunteer) in the UC Museum of Paleontology, and I helped revise part of their paleobotanical searchable database so that you can now search for taxa above the rank of genus. This meant spending a week entering all the higher taxon information for each specimen record. I am familiar with the problems of paleobotanical form taxa, and have a full-size bookcase that isn't big enough to contain all my botanical reference books (let alone the reprints and photocopies of papers). --EncycloPetey (talk) 05:38, 14 May 2010 (UTC) EncycloPetey (talk) 05:38, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
