L'objectif de ce projet est de créer un environnement de développement intégré moderne pour AS400; et déporté sur un environnement fenêtré Windows.

La modernisation du poste du développeur n’existe pas seulement pour ce que l’on appelle les « nouvelles technos » telles que java, C#, service web … .Les projets de développement sur des technos plus anciennes comme l’AS400 ou MVS doivent aussi bénéficier de ces avancées.

Le système AS400 est souvent déprécié des jeunes développeurs car son interface verte et noire 5250 rudimentaire en mode caractère rebute rapidement; et est bien moins attrayant et facile à prendre en main qu’un Eclipse, WinDev ou Visual studio.

Pourtant, IBM fourni aux développeurs tous les outils nécessaires pour accéder à un hôte iSeries de l'extérieur (ODBC, JDBC).
