decided to take it off the back-burner:

Vuu-do music player

1-11-2026
EDIT: New version 1.0-1 uploaded! Fixed the .xsession-errors issue, and expanded the
formats picked up by the scraper script to include most common formats.

Thanks to all who tried the alpha version of the music player! It helped me already to
find some bugs to work on...at some point you just need more eyes on something. Thanks
to rations and unklar especially for giving some good feedback!... read more

A quick note about notes

1-07-2025

So I looked at a lot of the amazing note-taking apps for Linux, there's a surprising
amount of them, but I think maybe my concept of what a "note" is, is vastly different
from the folks who make them. All note-taking apps including mine are by definition
a sort of text-editor, and the note-apps out there seem to embrace that to the point
that they are now text-editors instead of note apps. I see some and they have a long
row at the top of tiny icons that do a myriad of things, it looks similar to opening something
like LibreOffice writer or calc. Whole lotta feature creep going on there.... read more

VuuNotes prototype available for testing

12-31-2025
Working right up to the last minute of this year! The prototype for the app I mentioned
in my last blog post is up: https://sourceforge.net/projects/vuu-do/files/Miscellaneous/apps/VuuNotes/
It's not packaged, and no .desktop, just the compiled binary, the source code, and the compile command
for anyone who wants to play around with it.

Working on a new toy

12-28-2025

Working on a note-taking app, a brute simple little thing like most things I do,
probably won't generate much interest but it's looking like a super handy little
tool for me! But i'll share it at some point just in case. ;)

New Vuu-do OB max up

12-27-2025

Just the bug-fixed version of the the one I uploaded a couple days ago. New 3.1-2 version of AlsaTune.
EDIT: got the mini done too, it's up now

AlsaTune 3.1-2 up now

12-26-2025

Minor bug fix. Nothing fatal but definitely annoying, got a drag trail from the preset-edit GUI
when moving it. All fixed now. :-) If you downloaded the new Vuu-do max I just put up that has the
flawed version, just grab this new package and install it, it was just one of the scripts, you could actually
just replace the main alsatune script with the new one if you wanted.

'Tis the season!

12-25-2025

Happy everything my friends, thanks for an awesome year! For my little contribution
to the gift-giving I offer a new version of AlsaTune with the ability to edit saved EQ pre-sets
file directly from the GUI! And also a new Vuu-do ob-max-z with many updates, a couple little
bug fixes and some housecleaning, I packaged the thumbnail-cacher script, and of course
added the new version 3.1-1 of AlsaTune. New versions of Chromium, VLC, and ffmpeg as well.
I'll get a new mini-z up here in a day or so, today it's just the max version.

Now a 32-bit version of AlsaTune

12-23-2025

Just put up an i386 version of AlsaTune 3.0-0! Special thanks goes out to fsmithred who compiled
the binaries for this version and did the testing for it!

Posted by Green Jeans 2025-12-23

AlsaTune 1 and 2 files taken down for now. Version 3 up!

12-18-2025

Naming conflict. Version 3 will be ready in a few days.
EDIT 12-19-2025: Version 3 uploaded and ready for testing!

New AlsaTune version 2.1-0 available now!

12-13-2025

Check the readme in the AlsaTune section for more info, several cool new features!

Some cool new Alsa projects folks should check out!

12-04-2025

I'm really liking all the efforts folks are making out there to contribute to improving
and extending Alsa systems! Couple of things to share here:

jack-bridge provides a complete, lightweight audio stack for Debian-based Linux systems using JACK and ALSA — without systemd, PulseAudio, or PipeWire. Perfect for users who want minimal dependencies and maximum control. (Thank you rations, amazing work!)

New Vuu-do's uploaded!

11-29-2025

Some package updates including a new kernel. Fixed a bug in the last ScrotShot.
Updated to new version 2.0 of AlsaTune which introduces new features including a test
tone button and a soundcard-switcher in the gui. New .asoundrc that allows multiple
streams to play. Fixed some issues in the Oxy2-ZEN icons set. Apparmor is no longer
installed by default. Lots of little tweaks. Boot is faster and cleaner now and the new
AlsaTune seems to be just the ticket for most systems, but more complex ones will
likely require some editing. For most laptops it's all you'll need.

New 2.0 version of AlsaTune uploaded

11-27-2025

New version 2.0 of AlsaTune uploaded with new features, test tone, soundcard switcher and more.
This is what will be shipped with the next Vuu-do here in the next couple days. Check the readme
or the build thread on dev1galaxy.org for more info. I am keeping version 1 up as it's a nice standalone
EQ/Mixer app for folks who just want that, or want to build off that base for something new.

Updated Oxy2-ZEN icons

11-15-2025

Just a quick note, I just uploaded an improved Oxy2-ZEN icon set, really just some minor stuff
but there were some broken symlinks and I needed to add an icon for some missing ones.

New Vuu-do OB's uploaded

11-06-2025

Updates to Chromium and GIMP, some changes to sources.list, updates to VMAN and VAI
and ScrotShot and some general cleanup. Just tweaking and fixing the little things.
Re-worked sources.list to use deb.devuan.org by default but still have the gnulug
entries for folks who live in the continental US. Scrotshot is now set to open screenie
previews with Gpicview, but that behavior can be changed in the scripts and there are
comments in both (scrotshot, scrotselect) that explain how to do it. Some general cleanup
and behavior tweaks.

Just uploaded a new VAI .deb

11-2-2025

Just fixed a tiny pest, one deprecated bit of CSS, didn't do any harm but was throwing a complaint
into .xsession-errors. It's always the little things that make you do a fix-compile-repackage, lol. ;)

Vuu-do mentioned in a review

From a review of Extrox on Distrowatch:

The only other distros that could play 1080p video without stutter is Void Linux,
Chimera Linux and Vuu-do Linux. I have tried about 103 distributions so far, and
only these four could play YouTube videos in 1080p. Void and Vuu-do went a notch
higher and could play the same video in 1440p. The video I used to test is
"In Da Club" by 50 Cent. The reason I chose this video for testing is that it has
bit rates from 144p all the way up to 2160p. Vuu-do is the only one that could play
at 2160p, but with massive stutter, other Linux distros just had a static image at 2160p.... read more

More new OB iso's + icons

10-25-2025

Basically this blog post should have the same title as the last one, lol, just did a lot of
work and the results look nice so I ran some updates.
Some updates to Fatstick and some updated packages, a LOT of work on the Oxy2-ZEN
icons and the theme, some bug-fixes and syntax corrections. Also added some
right-click extensions for the file-manager to play audio and video files.
And upgraded/updated the Vuu-do manual app for more info and click-able links.... read more

New versions of Fatstick and Oxy-ZEN icons uploaded

10-18-2025

Figures the day after I upload new isos that i'd find some things to improve, that's just Murphy's law.
So with Fatstick there wasn't any bugs, just a bit of leftover code from earlier experiments that was
useless and not doing anything. Bye!

The Oxy2-ZEN icons have gotten a lot of changes since the last ones I uploaded in March, including
some way overdue attention to the music icons which were old and blurry for some reason, so I made
new ones that are nice and sharp and in the grayscale to keep with the theme. Also fixed an issue a
while back with the icons for Synaptic using the wrong size. And I added an icon-theme-cache.

New Vuu-do Openbox versions uploaded

10-17-2025

Some important package updates and Chromium in the max. Fixed a small bug
where after install and clicking the menu for the first time, you didn't have
the menu icons and had to use the refresh-icons button in the menu, this was
due to a leftover cache.db file in obmenu-generator's configs that pointed
to the home folder of the old user on the live-session (vuudo) instead of the
the new user. Now when you first click after install it builds you a new
cache.db and cache of thumbnails.... read more

Updated Vuu-do OB-Z's uploaded

10-02-2025

A few package updates including a new kernel, and some big improvements under the hood. Added a new init
script to do some cleaning at shutdown, dbus was bloating up folders in the user and root's home due to the way Devuan works,
it's one of just a few distros that change the machine-id at every boot, a nice security feature but unfortunately was not
clearing out old session-bus files, so that's fixed in this version. Changed some settings in Refracta Snapshot as it was
deleting icon-them-cache files, and re-built the caches so that will reduce some overhead, also added a line to clear the
session-bus files in root. Also added to the Refracta Installer's post-install script to seed a generic system-connection
file into the new install, Snapshot clears the old files as it should, but not seeding a new one was causing Network Manager
to generate new lease files on every boot, and not deleting old ones, so another instance of bloating, so that's fixed now
as well. Should see some performance gains in this version, ram usage at idle is definitely looking better and better with
all the tweaks of these last couple of versions. Updated the theme css for LightDM and created some new icons, looks nicer now.
Fixed some inconsistencies in the root account and more tweaks and cleanup.
