Hi. Sending you a feature request.
When open a HUGE file to see whats in it, takes really long time.
(sample 1.3GB : https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/daily-index/bulkdata/submissions.zip)
So please add a loading progress screen do prevent unnecessory open retrials since do not know whats even going on with nothing shown.
Have a good day.
Are you sure that you opened it with 7-Zip?
Maybe you open it with another program?
What exact number of seconds to open archive ?
Close archive and then open it second time.
What exact number of seconds was required for that second open operation?
That is hard to explain.
When select a context menu 'Open compresssd' then (if lucky) you can see very very short time of splash loading screen that disappers. Then takes time that few minutes scale with nothing.
In case winrar, loading also takes long time after counting files.
You should try yourself. So need to improve.
Open compressed
is not 7-Zip command.7-Zip
menu command is7-Zip/Open archive
inWindows 10
, orShow more Options/7-Zip/Open archive
inWindows 11

And what Windows version do you use?
The version I can see in the notepad is 11.2410.21.0 which is latest patch.
bye gotta go.
For fastest list file processing, you should to use default
View/Details
view mode (in 7-Zip File manager menu), when zip archive is open.Another modes (
Large icons/ Small icons / List
) can be slow for big number of files. You can open 7-Zip File Manager and switch to
View/Details
mode. Then 7-Zip will use that mode for another archives too.Last edit: Igor Pavlov 2025-02-08
