Thank you Jost. Just as a follow up then, both statements below are correct? 1. If a PHP script wants to access a remote java service, the PHP script need only include Java.inc. 2. There is no binary version of Java.inc. -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... [mailto:php...@li...] On Behalf Of php...@li... Sent: Friday, July 25, 2008 12:25 PM To: php...@li... However, this doesn't improve the performance in any way; if you want a faster communication, eliminate the number of round-trips (see java_begin_document()/java_end_document()). Implementing the communication in C or assembler is a waste of time. It may even be slower than the current PHP/Java implementation, because you can't easily cache context ID's in these languages. Hello, I am confused as to whether or not there is a .so (or .dll for windows) that does the same thing as the pure PHP Java.inc? Basically, I want my LAMP (or WAMP) server with no java installed to connect to a remote Java object server. I was able to do this fine with the pure PHP Java.inc. The pure PHP Java.inc does what I want it to do, but would not a .so (or .dll for windows) be a little faster? I am confused as to whether or not the functional equivalent of the pure PHP Java.inc can be built from the source into an .so (without Java on the compile machine). I guess another way to put it is I want to eliminate the include() call. I know the FAQ says that this is not a performance issue....I suppose this is true if the server cache's the Java.inc opcode...but would not a .so still be faster? So I guess my specific questions are: 1. Is there a way to build an .so that does what Java.inc does in terms of enabling connections to remote Java services w/o Java on the local machine? 2. Has anybody turned Java.inc into a .so, or is the consensus that caching the opcode is fast "enough"? Thanks! |

Hi, you should be able to back-port the PHP 5 example to PHP 4. Just remove all try/catch statements and replace the java_x_y_z::type() with java("x.y.z") and new java_x_y_z() with new java(...) calls. Type casts etc. aren't available in PHP 4 either, so you'll need to use java_values($javaObject) to convert a Java object into a PHP value. Hi, CrystalReports X and above have a Java API, and you should be able to invoke reports through that API. However, the PHP/Java Bridge has been developed 5 years ago for a pure Java reporting engine; search for "i-net CrystalClear" on the internet. Dear Jost and all, thanks for your quick reply. I already downloaded and compiled php-java-bridge-4.3.2 from its tar ball under FC5 linux. I'm using libgjc library, not Sun JVM. > If you still use PHP 4 please use PHP/Java Bridge version 4.x or 3.x instead. So in principle I should be able to run itext4php via php-java-bridge-4.3.2, shouldn't I? If so, does anybody know a sample code for PHP4 which makes use of itext4php? I installed itext4php version 1.2.0-1 (from rpm). Thanks a lot in advance, ****************************************************** Octavi Fors Universitat de Barcelona. Àrea de Tecnologies. Dear, I 've been suceessfuly combined PHP+APACHE+IREPORT as I refer to sample from http://charly-clairmont.developpez.com/tutoriels/php-jasper-reports/ which only can produce report in PDF file. I just want to know, is it possible the result report to view in viewer report as in Crystal Report?, may someone help me to solve this problem? Tq Ismail Siregar |

Hi, the PHP/Java Bridge library 5.x is for PHP 5 and above. If you still use PHP 4 please use PHP/Java Bridge version 4.x or 3.x instead. However, since PHP/Java Bridge version 4.x is not available for download anymore, you must check out the appropriate branch from the CVS. Hi, I need to check (with php-4.4.4 and apache2) if a given PDF file is digitally signed. These PDF files are stored in the server filesystem. I've told that iText Java library can perform such checking. I installed php-java-bridge-4.3.2 and itext4php-1.2.0-1 and tried to run the example script "itext_pdf.php" which comes with that package. That didn't work: I guess because it is intended for PHP5 only. Is there any example script that makes use of itext4php-1.2.0-1 but for php-4.4.4 or below? Thanks in advance, ****************************************************** Octavi Fors Universitat de Barcelona. Àrea de Tecnologies. No, there apparently are other ways. I cannot help you with them for I know only what I've worked with. I'm sure someone else (Jost for sure) would know. However, the Tomcat setup was the easiest way I came across. Hi, I was able to install the PHP Java Bridge (version 3.2.1) a couple of years ago in a Linux environment successfully. Now, I must repeat the experience but on a Windows machine running IIS 6 (I have no choice). The PHP Bridge seems to have change a lot since version 3.2.1 and now I'm unable to make it work anymore. Is it because the PHP Java Bridge does not work on that platform? I was unable to make it work following tutorial : http://www.dsl.uow.edu.au/~sk33/pjb_iis5.htm . The files in the current version of the bridge does not match the files described in the tutorial. All I'll need to accomplish is to call a java function located in a jar file. That's it. In order to perform that, do I need to install a Java App Server (Tomcat or other)? Both INSTALL.J2SE and INSTALL.J2EE seems to required a Java App Server to work. Is there somewhere a tutorial that explain how to do this for IIS 6? Best regards, --Sebastien Roy |

Hi, as long as you keep your libraries within the J2EE .war archive, the J2EE server automatically reloads them when you deploy a new version of your software. Unfortunately this is not possible for all libraries. log4j.jar for example shouldn't be deployed this way, see the section "Web application reloading and static fields in shared libraries" from the tomcat release notes. Hi Jost Thanks for getting back to me. After a lot of looking into the problem I found that the jvm must have been caching the old class. I found this by shutting my server down and then restarting it which didnt fix the problem so I then deleted my classes and called the php script again. This still didnt fix the problem so I restarted the server again and found that the class no longer exsisted so I then proceeded to recompile my classes and then ran the script again and everything worked fine. Now I just need to find a way to stop the caching from happening. :) Thanks Barry On Thu, 2008-07-17 at 17:18 +0000, php...@li... wrote: > Hi, > > > > And my php calling object is: > > $pdfGenerator = new Java("PDFGenerator", $foName, > > $pdfName); > > > what does > > echo java_inspect (java("PDFGenerator")); > > display? > > It it shows only one zero-arg constructor, then you're probably using an old version of your class. > > > Regards, > Jost Boekemeier > > > > __________________________________________________________ > Gesendet von Yahoo! Hi, > And my php calling object is: > $pdfGenerator = new Java("PDFGenerator", $foName, > $pdfName); what does echo java_inspect (java("PDFGenerator")); display? It it shows only one zero-arg constructor, then you're probably using an old version of your class. Hi I wondered if somebody could help me out here. I have a java class that has a constructor that takes 2 strings as arguments when I use the class I get the below exception from within my php page. Fatal error: Uncaught [[o:Exception]:"java.lang.Exception: CreateInstance failed: new PDFGenerator([o:PhpParserString], [o:PhpParserString]). Cause: java.lang.InstantiationException: No matching constructor found. Candidates: [public PDFGenerator()] VM: 1.6.0_06@http://java.sun.com/" at: #-5 php.java.bridge.JavaBridge.CreateObject(JavaBridge.java:465) #-4 php.java.bridge.Request.handleRequest(Request.java:447) #-3 php.java.bridge.Request.handleRequests(Request.java:485) #0 /home/barry/workspace/Ditype/Java.inc(265): java_ThrowExceptionProxyFactory->getProxy(1, '@V', false) #1 /home/barry/workspace/Ditype/Java.inc(417): java_Arg->getResult(false) #2 /home/barry/workspace/Ditype/Java.inc(420): java_Client->getWrappedResult(false) #3 /home/barry/workspace/Ditype/Java.inc(602): java_Client->getInternalResult() #4 /home/barry/workspace/Ditype/Java.inc(1956): java_Client->createObject('PDFGenerator', Array) #5 /home/barry/workspace/Ditype/ditype.php(61): Java->Java('PDFGenerator', '/home/barry/wor...', '/home/barry/wor...') #6 in /home/barry/workspace/Ditype/Java.inc on line 228 The constructor is: public void PDFGenerator(String fileName, String pdfFileName){ this.fileName = fileName; this.pdfFileName = pdfFileName; generatePDF(); } And my php calling object is: $pdfGenerator = new Java("PDFGenerator", $foName, $pdfName); I know the class works as it I take the parameters out of the constructor and recompile with a string to print out everything works fine. Thanks for any help. Barry |

Hi, I don't think it is possible to compile the Unix/Linux sources on the macintosh. Please use the pure Java download instead. hello to all, guys! :) im new to php-java bridge...it really seems it could solve me TONS of problem at university, where i have lot of java chicks to run and a big hateness for jsp interfaces :) but before i have to compile and install it on OSX. i tried following the flow in the INSTALL file. all reqs are ok, but i got this fatal during make process: ./libtool: line 454: CDPATH: command not found ./libtool: line 1132: func_opt_split: command not found libtool: Version mismatch error. This is libtool 2.2.4, but the libtool: definition of this LT_INIT comes from an older release. libtool: You should recreate aclocal.m4 with macros from libtool 2.2.4 libtool: and run autoconf again. i have no idea on what i have to do....got some clues? :) tnx in advanced and have a nice week! gabriele |

Hi, we keep the C wrapper because some distributions use it. If you have questions regarding the distribution packages, please contact the distributor. > If it was needed only back then, why is it still part of 'make install', > 'install.sh'? It's for backward compatibility. > 'INSTALL.LINUX' from CVS says: Ah, I see. The latest INSTALL.LINUX file is in the binary download. I will check it in, if I have some time.
