[Matplotlib-users] Labelling Rectangles

Hi there I am plotting a bar graph and would like to label the bars (rectangles) with their quantities. If a bar represents 12 items I want a "12" on the top-end of the bar, preferable on the edge of the bar and not off the chart as with a table. Is this possible?
