Yes, I did install TeX Live at a later stage thinking that it would
clean up the earlier version.

OK, but how do I go about this? Where can I set which version to use. I
have set my PATH to /usr/texbin
in the .bash_profile, .bashrc and .profile (just to make sure), but how
can I make this my default version for Matplotlib? I did not
see any path variables in the matplotlibrc file and I'm not going to
tinker with that if I'm not sure.
