Suresh, That example works fine for me, using python 2.4.3, mpl 0.87.5 under windows, and wxPython 2.6.3.3, with backend: WxAgg, numerix: numarray (1.5.1), interactive: False, and axes.hold: True in the RC file. I'd recommend going with numpy instead of numarray, if you can. See http://numeric.numpy.org/ and http://scipy.org. Hello Everybody, I use the usual scipy + numpy + matplotlib combination for my daily work. Unfortunately after switching to Fedora Core 6 (from FC5) I am unable to compile matplotlib 0.87.6 on my system. The steps involved so far where: * First building numpy 1.0 final (installing blas,lapack,atlas and corresponding -devel packages for dependencies) Numpy tests run ok. * then building scipy 0.5.1. No additional deps. Tests show a couple of errors. I think they are unrelated and are already reported on the scipy list. * Installing the deps mentioned in the INSTALL file _except_ freetype-utils which is not in the FC6 repositories. It has been around in FC5 so I assumed (still assume) it is merged into freetype. (zlib, zlib-devel, libpng, libpng-devel, freetype, freetype-devel, gtk2-devel, gtk+-devel, pygtk2, glib-devel, pygtk2-devel, gnome-libs-devel, pygtk2-libglade tcl, tk, tkinter) * Then I unpack the matplotlib-0.87.6.tar.gz and cd into the new dir. Running python setup.py build doesn't work (details below). Then I deleted the whole directory and unpacked again, this time changing the numerix setting in setup.py to "numpy" (which is the array package I would like to use). Again python setup.py build fails. The output is located at the end of this mail. Unfortunately the error message is not too descriptive so I have no clue what to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The exception I posted is being thrown by numarray, so it is definitely
being used.

Hi, I've been building matplotlib 0.87.7 on a 10.4.7 OS X system, with Universal Python 2.4.3 from pythonmac.org. I've been following instructions at http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=36901627 to create a universal library, downloading and compiling my own libpng and libfreetype. I don't have GTK or wxPython, so the backend is Tk by default. Matplotlib will crash on show() [a white window will briefly show, and then disappear] as in import pylab pylab.plot([1,2,3]) pylab.show() with alloc: invalid block: 0xabc3fc9c: 9b 8 0 Abort trap I think I'm using the "system" Tk (but how to check?) Any input welcome... I suppose I could get other backends, but I would be interested in figuring this out with Tk. Michele |

I receive an error when trying to plot barcharts. To confirm it was

This looks like it may be a bug introduced by some recent changes
Norbert made to the rc handling, but hard to say.
Make sure matplotlib is picking up the rc file you think it is by
running with --verbose-helpful and if so, send that file along and
we'll take a look.

This has worked fine up through 0.87.5 (the last release I grabbed) but in 0.87.7, the ticks on the axes are black (the axes color is white). Am I missing a setting somewhere or is this a bug? |

No, but if you are making a lot of them, say over 100, then
performance will start to suffer, and you may be better off with a
LineCollection. plot (which creates a Line2D) is good for making a
few lines with possibly very many points each, and LineCollection is
good for generating lots of line (or segments) with not too many
points each.

Any workaround known? I've never tried importing eps files into Photoshop, so I couldn't comment on that (I would imagine Adobe would be quite good at it!). However, one possible workaround since you're importing into an image editor would be to use ghostscript or eps2png to convert the eps to a PNG or whatever before importing. Hope that helps, Al |

Whenever I view those files with a standard viewer on that machine or try to embed it in a latex document there is no problem. Now I've copied these files on a Windows machine and I opened them in Adobe Photoshop (9.0 CS2) and no numbers and no text is visible - not in the legends, the labels, title, etc and regardless of whether I'm producing these digits / letters with or without TeX.
