fixed a bug related to checking dvipng version

using native numarray isnan

minor tweaks

applied isnan to numarray and other misc

usetex makes temporary files in a temp directory instead
of the user's cwd

removed tags, trunk, branches directories that were
inadvertently added by eric3 editor.

Updated install instructions.

print error message if can't open boundary datasets

Now only install 'i' and 'h' datasets.
