Patch for #53 NaN and infinity are handled incorrectly

Attached is a patch that we have utilized at IDEXX Labs for the the bug described above. We have testted and verified this on x86 32 and 64 bit linux and 32 bit arm.

also attached is a small cpp program that will verify the defect and the validity of the patch.

The project has moved to GitHub. If you submit a pull request, I'm sure we would accept it right away. But we cannot so easily patch an old version in source-forge.
