No way, that unreadable code goes to eleven.

It looks like C code written by someone who learned to program
in tiny basic (4k of ram baby!) and never looked back or forward 
for that matter.

If it was me, I'd rewrite the code from scratch or carefully try
and unroll it into something sensible.
