I am wondering how wxWidgets events work. I was trying to study the source = but it didn't make much sense to me. I found a WinProc function under the w= indow.cpp file but this is the only one I found. If the window were to have= other child controls, and if events were to go to that WinProc function, h= ow would it know what control sent it, since the number of controls can var= y for any program? _________________________________________________________________ Be one of the first to try Windows Live Mail. http://ideas.live.com/programpage.aspx?versionId=3D5d21c51a-b161-4314-9b0e-= 4911fb2b2e6d= |

when searching a string for regular expressions, is it possible to nto search as a literal? for example: "actg...cgta" in .find() would search for that literal string I want to to search for that regular expression, ie: actg, 3 characters, cgta is this possible? |

Eric, By convention, any expression which evaluates to zero is considered false, and true if it is different from zero. The comparison operators such as ==, > or != return 0 if the comparison is false and 1 if the comparison is true, so doing a bitwise AND between the two results does not make any difference compared to a logical AND (&&) and does not add much to clarity. Hello, Sorry if this is obvious, but I am working on an object for Max/MSP, which requires that I use the -shared flag to make a DLL instead of the -msdll flag that Dev-C++ uses instead. Is there a way to specify this? I can't find it in the menus anywhere. For the moment I'm doing command line in Cygwin, but I would rather just fix it in the IDE. Thanks, -- Mike Sayre "Now you see that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb." |

What this error means? This error simply means, that you've passed wrong parameters to the function. Look carefully and you'll see. Maybe you are simply passing value instead of pointer, missed some parametter or something like that. That's a dumb error and it is everytime quite difficult to find what's wrong, cause everything seems OK. -- Aurimas |

Hi, I have the error "error: no matching function for call to...", checked all, but can't find what exactly the error is - everything looks OK. g++ is saying "note: candidates are ..." and the only candidate is the function to be called!? What could cause that? What this error means? Thanks! George |

is there a way to reverse the contents of a map? for example, I want to set the keys to teh contents, and the contents to the keys |

Why do you bother so much with WIN32 API? If you had worked with wxWidgets you would have a magnificent application by now. Besides - with some care it could work on a number of other architectures too and you wouldn't have to worry about .NET and the direction future M$ operating systems might take. /Per W On Mon, 26 Jun 2006, Noorez Kassam wrote: > When I try to debugg my print function...I receive the "An access violation(Segmentation Fault) was raised in your prorgram" error at the marked point where the function calls the PrintDlg() function. First of all, you have forgotten that map and string resides in the std:: namespace. Besides - do you really want to return a _copy_ of a map? The following code allocates a map and returns a pointer to the map object: #include <map> #include <string> std::map<std::string,std::string>* fnk() { return new std::map<std::string,std::string>; } /Per W On Mon, 26 Jun 2006, Erik Schmidt wrote: > I'm trying to write a function with a return type of map <string, string> > > my declaration looks like this: > > #include <map> > > map <string, string> get_degenerate{ > > //do stuff > > } > > my compiler says I need a constuctor, destructor, or type conversion > before operator "<" > > any help? > > Using Tomcat but need to do more? time() only have a granularity of seconds, so it is only useful for benchmarking really slow jobs. On Win32 machines, the simplest method to get subsecond resolution info is: DWORD t0 =3D GetTickCount(); // do something DWORD t1 =3D GetTickCount(); DWORD ms =3D t1 - t0; GetTickCount() returns wall time, i.e. you must make sure that no other processes consumes any significant amount of processor time. The granularity of the returned time is ms - it reports number of milliseconds since the system booted. A more advanced timing method is to use GetThreadTimes(). It reports only time consumed by your thread in kernel and user code. The FILETIME data type uses a time granularity of 100ns. Note that other processes/threads will still affect a little bit because they will fight for room in the instruction and data caches of the processor, so for best result you should try to keep the processor load from other programs as low as possible. FILETIME dummy,krn0,sys0,krn1,sys1; DWORD64 kernel_us,user_us; GetThreadTimes(GetCurrentThread(),&dummy,&dummy,&krn0,&sys0); // Do something GetThreadTimes(GetCurrentThread(),&dummy,&dummy,&krn1,&sys1); kernel_us =3D ((DWORD64(krn1.dwHighDateTime)<<32) + DWORD64(krn1.dwLowDateTime))/10 - ((DWORD64(krn0.dwHighDateTime)<<32) + DWORD64(krn0.dwLowDateTime))/10; system_us =3D ((DWORD64(sys1.dwHighDateTime)<<32) + DWORD64(sys1.dwLowDateTime))/10 - ((DWORD64(sys0.dwHighDateTime)<<32) + DWORD64(sys0.dwLowDateTime))/10; /Per W On Mon, 26 Jun 2006, [UTF-8] Aurimas =C4=8Cernius wrote: > Hi, > > > Does anyone have a relatively simple method for timing how long > > a particular sort takes? Hi, > Does anyone have a relatively simple method for timing how long > a particular sort takes? I would like to be able to measure > in minutes, seconds and hundredths of seconds. You can simply use time() function from <ctime> to get time before and after sort. Then you can simply find a difference between them using difftime(). -- Aurimas |
