Past week I see this problem. Set option for open file O_BINARY.

Hi,

I am using win xp home edition.

I am new to windows. I am trying to read data from a binary file using
open, lseek & read system calls. But, read returns 0 bytes at certain
point, even though it has not reached the eof.

For example, if the file size is 400k and if i try to read from 2k to
300k, 1k at a time, read returns 0 (indicating eof, right ?) after
reading 51k.

I have tried the same code on gnu linux and it works perfect.

Could you please let me know what am i doing wrong over here ? Googling
and search in the archive does not help.

TIA.

I will be glad to submit repeatable tiny sample code, if required.

You loadthe first integer into min_so_far.

However, your for loop should _not_ use min_so_far as max, and you
shouldn't input the total count into i but into num...

How about trying to read your own code, and think a bit if it makes
sense... If you compile your code with full warnings (-Wall) the compiler
would probaby give you a couple of warnings.

By the way, you have one int i directly inside main() but declare a new
int i inside the for().

To the best of my knowledge, No.

Mesa is called mesa because it is not officially licensed with SGI (the 
creators of OpenGL) otherwise it meets all the requirements of an OpenGL 
implementation. I am pretty sure there are some exceptions but Mesa 
should be on par with every one else, of course this assumes comparing 
using the same hardware, same OS, etc.

I would suggest the beej's guide to network programming (the first link 
from Alex) as he teaches not only winsock programming but general TCP/IP 
programming using the berkley sockets interface which works not only on 
windows but on just about every UNIX out there (i.e. you knowladge would 
go alot further).

And just to add another tutorial to the mix check out:

This is good for getting started but doesn't go into the more advanced 
stuff like looking up addresses, creating multi-threaded servers, etc.

Exactly the same. What changes is how you compile the program.

Instead of adding WS2_32.LIB/WSOCK32.LIB you add -lws2_32/-lwsock32 to 
your linker command line.

The includes, structures & functions all stay the same (the libraries

When I debug this program, I get "Warning: An Access Violation 
(Segmentation Fault) raised in your program."  When I get this error 
msg, I end up in stl_construct.h.

I know that you always want to see the entire program, but it is over 
300 lines long, so please let's see if anyone can see anything glaringly 
wrong with this, okay?

At the moment of error, Range = a valid integer.
DGroupset is merely a disk image of the vector so I can see what's going on.
I have checked if "Range" is a reserved word (it is not).
I have checked if a vector<int> needs any special handling (it does not).
I have chkdsk'ed the partition.

What could cause this?  What are some causes a Segmentation Fault?

Exactly the same. What changes is how you compile the program.

Instead of adding WS2_32.LIB/WSOCK32.LIB you add -lws2_32/-lwsock32 to 
your linker command line.

The includes, structures & functions all stay the same (the libraries 
also stay the same but they have slightly different file names)
