Hi, I am using win xp home edition. I am new to windows. I am trying to read data from a binary file using open, lseek & read system calls. But, read returns 0 bytes at certain point, even though it has not reached the eof. For example, if the file size is 400k and if i try to read from 2k to 300k, 1k at a time, read returns 0 (indicating eof, right ?) after reading 51k. I have tried the same code on gnu linux and it works perfect. Could you please let me know what am i doing wrong over here ? Googling and search in the archive does not help. TIA. I will be glad to submit repeatable tiny sample code, if required. --=20 Regards, A.Bhuvaneswaran |

You loadthe first integer into min_so_far. However, your for loop should _not_ use min_so_far as max, and you shouldn't input the total count into i but into num... How about trying to read your own code, and think a bit if it makes sense... If you compile your code with full warnings (-Wall) the compiler would probaby give you a couple of warnings. By the way, you have one int i directly inside main() but declare a new int i inside the for(). /Per W On Sun, 27 Jun 2004, PETER CAMPOS wrote: > hi everyone..freshman cpp needs help again > i want this program to request for any number of integers to be compared for the lowest integer. thanx for your time. peter > > #include <iostream> > using namespace std; > > int main (){ > int num, i, min_so_far; > cout << "How many numbers do you want to compare: "; > cin >> i; > cout << "enter the numbers to be counted: "; > cin >> min_so_far; > for (int i=0; i<min_so_far; i++) > { > cout << "enter number: "; > cin >> num; > if (num < min_so_far) > min_so_far = num; > } > cout << "the minimum is " << min_so_far << endl; > return 0; > } > > > ______________ ______________ ______________ ______________ > ccny.cuny.edu > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings & Training. > Attend Black Hat Briefings & Training, Las Vegas July 24-29 - > digital self defense, top technical experts, no vendor pitches, > unmatched networking opportunities. To the best of my knowledge, No. Mesa is called mesa because it is not officially licensed with SGI (the creators of OpenGL) otherwise it meets all the requirements of an OpenGL implementation. I am pretty sure there are some exceptions but Mesa should be on par with every one else, of course this assumes comparing using the same hardware, same OS, etc. michele wrote: > Excuse me, > but I would like to know one thing, on dev-c++ we use not gl but mesa > libraries, is it true? > This affect the speed of our gl programs? > > Thanks > michele > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings & Training. > Attend Black Hat Briefings & Training, Las Vegas July 24-29 - > digital self defense, top technical experts, no vendor pitches, > unmatched networking opportunities. I would suggest the beej's guide to network programming (the first link from Alex) as he teaches not only winsock programming but general TCP/IP programming using the berkley sockets interface which works not only on windows but on just about every UNIX out there (i.e. you knowladge would go alot further). And just to add another tutorial to the mix check out: http://www.hal-pc.org/~johnnie2/winsock.html This is good for getting started but doesn't go into the more advanced stuff like looking up addresses, creating multi-threaded servers, etc. Hope this Helps David McKen Gary Lawton wrote: > http://www.codeproject.com/internet/ > > Gary > > A. For example,=20 ifstream inFile; Open the file stream. Path names in MS Windows use backslashes (\). = Because the backslash is also the string escape character, it must be doubled. = If the full path is not given, most systems will look in the directory that contains the object program. For example,=20 inFile.open("C:\\temp\\datafile.txt"); Check that the file was opened. For example, the open fails if the file doesn't exist, or if it can't be read because another program is writing = it. A failure can be detected with code like that below using the ! (logical not) operator:=20 if (!inFile) { cerr << "Unable to open file datafile.txt"; exit(1); // call system to stop } Read from the stream in the same way as cin. For example,=20 while (inFile >> x) { sum =3D sum + x; } Close the input stream. Closing is essential for output streams to be = sure all information has been written to the disk, but is also good practice = for input streams to release system resources and make the file available = for other programs that might need to write it.=20 inFile.close(); Example The following program reads integers from a file and prints their sum. = 1=20 2=20 3=20 4=20 5=20 6=20 7=20 8=20 9=20 10=20 11=20 12=20 13=20 14=20 15=20 16=20 17=20 18=20 19=20 20=20 21=20 22=20 23=20 24=20 25=20 26=20 27=20 // io/read-file-sum.cpp - Read integers from file and print sum. // Fred Swartz 2003-08-20 #include #include #include using namespace std; int main() { int sum =3D 0; int x; ifstream inFile; =20 inFile.open("test.txt"); if (!inFile) { cout << "Unable to open file"; exit(1); // terminate with error } =20 while (inFile >> x) { sum =3D sum + x; } =20 inFile.close(); cout << "Sum =3D " << sum << endl;=20 return 0; } The text from the above example can be selected, copied, and pasted into = an editor. =20 Copyleft 2000-3 Fred Swartz Last update 2003-09-25, URL=3Dundefined -----Original Message----- From: Eric [mailto:eri...@cl...]=20 Sent: s=E1bado, 26 de Junho de 2004 10:17 To: Marco Ribeiro; 'Noorez Kassam' Cc: dev...@li... What changes is how you compile the program. Instead of adding WS2_32.LIB/WSOCK32.LIB you add -lws2_32/-lwsock32 to your linker command line. The includes, structures & functions all stay the same (the libraries also stay the same but they have slightly different file names) Ehi Ikhimiukor wrote: > Hi guys, > Can someone please tell me how to do WinSock programming with Dev C++? When I debug this program, I get "Warning: An Access Violation (Segmentation Fault) raised in your program." When I get this error msg, I end up in stl_construct.h. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- int Range=0; int PreviousRange=0; vector<int> Groupset; // subscripts/pointers to Groupset ranges ofstream DGroupset("W:\\AAAnalysis\\DGroupset.txt"); ofstream DWDRlist("W:\\AAAnalysis\\DWDRlist.txt"); .... int main() { .... if (Mtglist[i].substr(0,1) == "*") { if (Mtglist[i].size() == 8) { Groupset.push_back(Range); <=======================> Here's the stmt that yields the error. DGroupset << Range << endl; DWDRlist << Mtglist[i] << endl; PreviousRange=Range; TWDR++; } } ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know that you always want to see the entire program, but it is over 300 lines long, so please let's see if anyone can see anything glaringly wrong with this, okay? At the moment of error, Range = a valid integer. DGroupset is merely a disk image of the vector so I can see what's going on. I have checked if "Range" is a reserved word (it is not). I have checked if a vector<int> needs any special handling (it does not). I have chkdsk'ed the partition. What could cause this? What are some causes a Segmentation Fault? TIA, Ken |
