Hi everybody ! I have winME and problems with Dev-c++ 4 and 4.01 : with dev c++ 4, i very often had an out of memory error i could not exit from, now that's the same but with an 'illegal pointer operation'. How could I avoid this since when it occurs, i can't save nor exit from dev c++ which makes me VERY angry. Thank you |

Waste of CPU time. I suggest using the Win32 API Sleep or _sleep functions instead. The reason is that your above delay function is constantly working the CPU as it goes through the loop. The Sleep or_sleep functions on the otherhand will actually halt the program until the set amount of time has passed. Ian, Hi. I dont think dev-c++ has a delay command so I wrote my own, here is the code: #include <ctime> void delay(int seconds) { clock_t current, end; current = clock(); end = current + CLOCKS_PER_SEC * seconds; while(current < end) current = clock(); // loop while current not equal end } Hope this helps! :) Chris. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian Weston" <lak...@ho...> To: <Dev...@li...> Sent: 28 November 2000 08:49 Subject: [Dev-C++] Delay > hi everyone. > does anyone know how to use delay. if so please could you send me the > c++ source code for it. i would be very greatful. > > thanks alot > laker > ____________________________________________________________________________ _________ > Get more from the Web. Thanks for all the help. I finally got the program to compile. And I learned of a few quirks in DOS that I didn't know about before. I did have to change to the forward slash in my path to get it to work. This site is a great resource in itself because knowledge is shared. Richard P. Evans |

The \\ is the way you would escape a backslash in C/C++ it's similar = to doing \n for newline. The others are right you can also use a forward = slash if you prefer. Dev-C_~1 is the DOS name for Dev C++, see for = yourself go to a DOS box and type in cd c:\ and then dir you'll see that = the Dev directory will be named Dev-C_~1, that's just the way crazy old = DOS handles things :) ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Richard P. The first one doesn't work because the default directory is not the current directory in Dev-C++ so you'll have to use absolute paths. The second one doesn't work because you need to use forward slash (/) as directory seperator - backslash does not work. Try: ID_MAIN ICON DISCARDABLE "C:/Dev-C++/Projects/Generic/generic.ico" ID_RS ICON DISCARDABLE "C:/Dev-C++/Projects/Generic/rs.ico" - Biswa. -----Original Message----- From: Richard P. Evans [mailto:ev...@ma...] Sent: 27 November 2000 23:05 To: dev...@li... Subject: [Dev-C++] Problem with resource files. Okay, here's my problem again. I am using the latest version of Dev-C++, 4.01, and I went to Project Options and changed the resource to be loaded to C:\Dev-C++\Projects\Generic\Generic.rc. I did a Makefile and then tried to compile. Below is what is in Generic.rc to load the icons which are in the same directory. ID_MAIN ICON DISCARDABLE "generic.ico" ID_RS ICON DISCARDABLE "rs.ico" The compiling stops and I get the following message: C:\DEV-C_~1\BIN\windres: can't open icon file `generic.ico': No such file or directory To get around this I then put in the full path as shown below and tried again (with a new Makefile): ID_MAIN ICON DISCARDABLE "C:\Dev-C++\Projects\Generic\generic.ico" ID_RS ICON DISCARDABLE "C:\Dev-C++\Projects\Generic\rs.ico" Again it stopped compiling but this time I got the messages below. What am I doing wrong? This is the logical solution suggested by one correspondent but as you can see, logical as it is, it didn't work. C:\\DEV-C_~1\\PROJECTS\\GENERIC\\GENERIC.RC:74: unrecognized escape sequence C:\\DEV-C_~1\\PROJECTS\\GENERIC\\GENERIC.RC:74: unrecognized escape sequence C:\\DEV-C_~1\\PROJECTS\\GENERIC\\GENERIC.RC:74: unrecognized escape sequence C:\\DEV-C_~1\\PROJECTS\\GENERIC\\GENERIC.RC:74: unrecognized escape sequence C:\\DEV-C_~1\\PROJECTS\\GENERIC\\GENERIC.RC:75: unrecognized escape sequence C:\\DEV-C_~1\\PROJECTS\\GENERIC\\GENERIC.RC:75: unrecognized escape sequence C:\\DEV-C_~1\\PROJECTS\\GENERIC\\GENERIC.RC:75: unrecognized escape sequence C:\DEV-C_~1\BIN\windres: can't open icon file `C:\Dev-C++\Projects\Generic s.ico': No such file or directory |

can anyone help me? I get 31 compilation errors when I include ddraw.h in my projects I just want to use directX to create a direct link with video memory, and then use assembly language to move graphics buffer to video memory. also when I try to use the inline assembler I get errors too. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. You lost me SpiderMan. As far as I can see that is the same as what I have. How can I lose a \ ? And why does the message show Dev-C++ as Dev-C_~1 when it refers to the path? The tilda I understand, the "1" maybe also, but why and where did the underline come from? |
