Hi Guys, Can anyone tell me how to create objects (of a particular class) without hard coding them? I want the program to prompt me to input a string of characters then make an object of that name. I have thought of using cin but I am still unsuccessful. Thanks for your time. Regards to all! |

>> You Wrote: >> I have a class which creates data structure (let it be a list) as part >> of its data. So it is a private member. I would like to "give" this list >>to outside world. How should I implement this?? I would suggest you rethink your design. You are violating the whole purpose of OOP and data hiding. Objects are to manipulate their own data, and hide it from the outside world. Without knowing all of what you are doing. If you want to be consistent with OOP, I would suggest one of two ways. 1) Have the outside world create a list and you pass a reference to this list to your class and let your class operate on it directly. 2) Create method(s) in your class that allows the outside world to iterate thru the items on your class internal list. Such as some get method or getNext method. As for making a member variable public and exposing it to the world, would violate the whole principle of OOP. Especially because the outside world would be able to change the list outside of your class. Which defeats the whole purpose. I personally would do the second suggestion. -Adam Jones |

HI lloyd The thng u can do is: 1.Use Scope resolution operator. 2.declare the data as "protected" or "public". I hope this must solve ur problem. hey man go rocking --------------------------------- 5, 50, 500, 5000 - Store unlimited mails in your inbox. Click here. |

Hi all, I'm not sure whether I'm addressing the right mailing list or not. Anyways, I installed the SDL development packages under dev-cpp, and everything went well (test programs are working fine). Now my question is: is it possible to debug with dev-cpp an application which makes extensive use of SDL functions? Thx. Stefano |

(see http://www.wxwidgets.org/manuals/stable/wx_wxstring.html#wxstringfromascii ) To do this assignment with locale based conversion use something like: centerx=wxString(tempx,wxConvCurrent); (see http://www.wxwidgets.org/manuals/stable/wx_mbconvclasses.html#wxmbconvobjects ) The question is, why aren't you staying in wxWidgets space and use wxTextFile instead of CTextFile. This way you wouldn't have to worry about string format conversions. Also be careful with the line cfile.InitializeWith((char *)file.mb_str( wxConvUTF8 )); Are you sure that every Operating System running your software saves its filenames in UTF8? Probably the conversion should be file.mb_str( wxConvFileName ); Regards, Stefan |

Change function declaration to: void wxOpengl3D::ReadFile(const wxString & file) maybe it helps compiler find the exact match. 2007/8/9, Luis Bras <lf...@ya...>: > > Can someone help me? > > I'm trying to convert a char* to a wxString: > > void wxOpengl3D::ReadFile(wxString & file) > { > > char * temp=new char[file.Len()+1]; > CTextFile cfile; > wxString centerx; > > // Open file > cfile.InitializeWith((char *)file.mb_str( wxConvUTF8 )); > cfile.OpenFileToRead(); > > // Get a string from file ending in ';' > temp=strupr(cfile.get_str(temp,';')); > centerx=temp; > (...) > } > > I get this error: > > error: ambiguous overload for 'operator=' in > '((wxOpengl3D*)this)->wxOpengl3D::centerx = temp' > C:/wxWidgets-2.8.4/include/wx/string.h:676: note: candidates are: wxString& > wxString::operator=(int) <near match> > C:/wxWidgets-2.8.4/include/wx/string.h:957: note: wxString& > wxString::operator=(wxChar) <near match> > C:/wxWidgets-2.8.4/include/wx/string.h:971: note: wxString& > wxString::operator=(const wxWCharBuffer&) <near match> > C:/wxWidgets-2.8.4/include/wx/string.h:1026: note: wxString& > wxString::operator=(const wxString&) <near match> > > When using wxWidgets-2.6 no error were found. > > Thanks in advance. > > > > ________________________________ > Got a little couch potato? > Check out fun summer activities for kids. > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. > Still grepping through log files to find problems? The first use I see is when developing interfaces, a class with pure virtual functions. The classic example is the Shape interface, with its draw method. Then, classes like Rectangle, Triangles etc can implement this method. And in a loop, you could have a vector of Shapes (sv), and something like this to draw all shapes: for_each(sv.begin(), sv.end(), std::mem_fun(&Shape::draw)); Also, many times a child class add functionality to an object. For example, a MoverClass may have the function move as a member, which updates its position. An AircraftClass might want to override this move function, to update its aerodynamic data to, like this: void AircraftClass::move(){ MoverClass::move(); // update aero data } My 2 cents. 2 Aug 2007 12:41:31 -0000, Peeyush Bishnoi <pee...@re...>: > > > Hello All , > > I have one very simple & important query. > I want to know the conditions & circumstances when to use the Virtual > Function in a Project. > > I know most of the thing about the Virtual Function like it is used to > implement Run type Polymorphism , Virtual Function VTBL & VPTR etc. , but > still i get confused how & when it is needed in a Project , & in what > circumstances & condition should i used. > > Please feed me through the valuable suggestions. > > Thank you , > > > Regards > Peeyush > > > [image: select view apply]<http://adworks.rediff.com/cgi-bin/AdWorks/click.cgi/www.rediff.com/signature-home.htm/1050715198@Middle5/1307758_1301384/1307141/1?PARTNER=3&OAS_QUERY=null+target=new+> > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. > Still grepping through log files to find problems? Check if you have an invalid file name - you fail to open the file. I would guess that the incomplete file type is caused by the data type ifstream being based on a template (basic_ifstream<char>) /pwm On Wed, 1 Aug 2007, Wagner, Frank wrote: > Hi all, > > I did somthing like: > > <-- > #include <fstream> > > int=09=09len; > ifstream=09instream; > > instream.open(Filename.c_str(), ios::binary); > > instream.seekg(0, ios::end); > len =3D instream.tellg(); > instream.seekg(0, ios::beg); > > --> > > This compiles well but when I run this in the debugger I get instream as > <incomplete type> > and the the instream.tellg(); will return a -1. > > This is taken from a exampler at: > http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/iostream/istream/tellg.html > > Has the incorrect len something to do with these incomplete type thing? > > How might I solve the problem? > > Thanks in advance > > Frank > -- > WIKA Alexander Wiegand GmbH & Co. Hi all, I did somthing like: <-- #include <fstream> int len; ifstream instream; instream.open(Filename.c_str(), ios::binary); instream.seekg(0, ios::end); len =3D instream.tellg(); instream.seekg(0, ios::beg); --> This compiles well but when I run this in the debugger I get instream as <incomplete type> and the the instream.tellg(); will return a -1. This is taken from a exampler at: http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/iostream/istream/tellg.html Has the incorrect len something to do with these incomplete type thing= =3F How might I solve the problem=3F Thanks in advance Frank -- WIKA Alexander Wiegand GmbH & Co. Hi Kristian, did you try writing std::vector<ArvoreB<T> >::iterator it_filho; instead of std::vector<ArvoreB >::iterator it_filho; ? Since a few years, compilers tend to think very general about templates. For them, It could be that in implementing your function you wish to make use of class ArvoreB<int>. It is not easy to infer answers to such questions from authoritative literature (such as C++ templates, The complete Guide by D. Vandevoorde and N.M. Josutis) in a way that your compiler agrees. Regards, Ulrich |
