Attention Group Is it possable to add a bit of class to the group my name is Eric, I am not too sure why the "bro" after all we are not in a Email group for coal miners . If you would like me to help you with the C++ request I hope I enjoy taking out time to help you. While I am not up to speed to Per Westermark standards of C++, some times the someone elses answer come together with the question as I mainly get Email twice a day, The question to this thread came about midnight when I down loaded emails, I went to bed late so I could answer the question, I was not too sure if it was C or C++ or a hybrid question (C and C++ combined) Thankyou from Eric ----- Original Message ----- From: Deepesh Kapadia To: dev...@li... Hello, Bellow is a code example of some window creating. I would like to know. I am not sure because newbie to this window stuff and always seemed it to me somehow like a mystery. So let's say I want to have another type of the cursor. So can I put the type as a parameter to WinMain function? When I tried write down WinMain() like WinMain() without the parameters it shows errors about conflict with the prototype. And if what data type should it be. It is a member of some structure wc.Cursor but i am not sure what to deal with this. Thanks a lot Jan Mura jan...@vo... The code: #include<windows.h> #include "main.h" int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { const char g_szClassName[] = "TheWindow"; WNDCLASSEX wc; HWND hwnd; MSG Msg; /*fill out the member of a window class */ wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); /* the size of the structure */ wc.style = 0; /* style of the class, usually can be set to 0 */ wc.lpfnWndProc = WndProc; /- pointer to the window procedure - see function WndProc() */ wc.cbClsExtra = 0; /* amount of extra data allocated, usually set to 0 */ wc.cbWndExtra = 0; /* amount of data allocated for the type of a window, usually set to 0 */ wc.hInstance = hInstance; wc.hIcon = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); /* big icon */ wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); /* type of the cursor shown */ wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)(COLOR_WINDOW+1); /* color of the window */ wc.lpszMenuName = NULL; /* name of a menu resources */ wc.lpszClassName = g_szClassName; /* the name to identify the class wc.hIconSm = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); /* small icon */ } LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND hwnd, UINT msg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { switch(msg) { case WM_CLOSE: DestroyWindow(hwnd); break; case WM_DESTROY: PostQuitMessage(0); break; default: return DefWindowProc(hwnd, msg, wParam, lParam); } return 0; } |

My email client doesn't allow angled bracket inside the body of the message. But i don't get what you're saying(My fault...sorry). #include using namespace std; int a_func() { int main = 5; return main; } int main() { int a_var = a_func(); return 0; } The above code compiles fine on my system. Here "main" is a variable defined in a function called a_func() and main() function is also used. I know that main is used as a variable when used in a statement like return main; because there's no parenthesis following the name of the variable. But if it were a function i would've used: return main(); Wouldn't I? So you can easily differentiate between the two. can you explain a little bit more why this code can cause a problem as the author states that? _________________________________________________________________ Find hidden words, unscramble celebrity names, or try the ultimate crossword puzzle with Live Search Games. I am trying to learn c++ by reading a book named "C++ Primer Plus". In that book author made a statement that when writing a program that has a main function defined can also have a variable named "main". "You can use "main" as a variable name. This can cause a problem in circumstances too esoteric to describe here." So in a program that has a main() function can also have a variable named main. But what can be the circumstance in which it can cause problem? Can anyone kindly shed light into this? I can't think of anything. Thanks. _________________________________________________________________ Enter today for your chance to win $1000 a day—today until May 12th. hi, I have got this information from somebody. As I have tried to setup in Bloodshed Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2 environment but still couldn't figure out how to set it up. The instructions shown below is based on Quincy environment. I have got the files p_io.h and p_io.c. As this issue is related to [Linker error] Undefined Reserence after adding the file p_io.h in the C include directory. How to set it up in bloodshed IDE? Thanks in advance. OK, I've figured it out. The issue was that p_io.h only contains function prototypes but the actual code is in p_io.c. Here's what you need to do: - Open p_io.c in Quincy. - Go to Tools > Options. Uncheck "Strict ANSI/ISO Compliance" (or else you will get errors compiling p_io.c) - Go to Project > Build, you should get a 'Successful Build' message. - In the same directory as p_io.c you should now see a new file p_io.o - Create a new directory anywhere on your system. For example, you may go to c:\program files\quincy and create custom_lib - Move p_io.h to the include directory inside your Quincy directory. - Move p_io.o to the custom_lib directory that you just made. - In Quincy, go to Tools > Options - (Optional) Check Strict ANSI/ISO Compliance again - Change Warnings options to 'All' - In 'Linker options' put "C:\Program Files\quincy\custom_lib\p_io.o" and make sure you put the double quotes as well. They are needed because of the space in the path. - Click OK. _________________________________________________________________ Find the job of your dreams before someone else does http://mycareer.com.au/?s_cid=596064 |

Hello, there are some problems i encountered with that stuff. As I looked for some hints on the Internet i haven't any standard process to deal with this. So I followed the gcc manual and tried gcc -o myprog -Ldir=libxml -llibxml2.lib main.c then just: gcc -o myprog -llibxml2.lib main.c having the file in my working directory . But gcc writes down it cannot find the library. There are some hints to have the shared libraries within the PATH but I am not sure if in Windows PATH or aome compiler library path. Also there is three files coming in libxml in lib directory. Clibxml2.lib libxml2_a.lib libxml2_a_dll.lib I'm not sure if these libs are dlls or what. Hi. I have just installed Bloodshed Dev-c++ version 4.9.7.0.software on my computer. I would like to be able to use borland's graphics.h interface to be able to create graphical objects with Dev-c++. I just downloaded the files graphics.h and libbgi.a and installed them in C:\Dev-Cpp\include and C:\DevCpp\lib (as directed in the Dev-C++ tutorial for CSC 161 students). however I encounter a problem when I try to use the library files. The problem is in entering the text -lbgi -lgdi32 lcomd1g32 luuid loleaut32 lole32 , and it comes because there is no "Parameters" tab in Project->Project Options window. Kindly advise me on how I could this right under the circumstances. I really would like to get going with creating objects with Dev-c++. Thanking you in advance Sipho --------------------------------- You rock. That's why Blockbuster's offering you one month of Blockbuster Total Access, No Cost. |

Hello, I'm struggling with configure.ac with shared_ptr checking. I want to check if there is either tr1/boost_shared_ptr.h or boost/shared_ptr.hpp but I have no idea how to do it with autoconf. I just added AC_CHECK_HEADER like below, AC_CHECK_HEADER(tr1/memory) AC_CHECK_HEADER(boost/shared_ptr.hpp) but ./configure says ... checking tr1/memory usability... no checking tr1/memory presence... no checking for tr1/memory... no checking boost/shared_ptr.hpp usability... no checking boost/shared_ptr.hpp presence... no checking for boost/shared_ptr.hpp... no ... even though they both exist actually. Does anyone know about what to do ? Thanks, Hiroyuki Yamada |

That is a more general question: Can you recover your formatted partition. Possibly. But if you have to ask here, you don't have the knowledge. Maybe you have a friend with enough knowledge - else you may have to pay a large amoung of money and send the disk to a company specializing in restoring lost files. However, the only way data can be recovered from that disk is if you do nothing at all that results in further writing on the just formatted partition! /pwm On Sat, 5 Apr 2008, frederico schardong wrote: > Hi > I was formated main partition (C), in here have my programs... > Dev is instaled in secondary partition (D) > > Can I recover my programs? > |

You wrote: "As I have included some information and comments within the code. With these information and short email messages should be able to know what the intention was." Please post normal ASCII mails to this mailing list. Your original mail was multi-part. One part contained quoted-printable without any line breaks (!), i.e. everything on a single line. Try to read your header text (and the "table" to the right) if it's on a single line... The other part was quoted-printable HTML, i.e. looked something like: /**************************************************************************= ******************************************************<BR> * Des= cription: Each star stands for a digit, with the leftmost star on eac= h &n= bsp;  = ; &n= bsp;  = ; &n= bsp;  = Note that every space in your text got converted to 6 characters in HTML encoding. That is quite wasteful of bandwidth. Your mail many times larger than the real information it contained. Further: Your original source code must have contained tab characters (and most probably very short tab characters too) that got converted to non-break spaces. But not to the correct number of spaces since the mail program did not know your true tab length. Now, you expect people to spend any time trying to read your description? Do post ASCII mails if you care about people spending time to read them. And make sure that your mails does not contain any tab characters that may get the indentation totally mangled! You write: "This is not an assignment." If this is not a school assignment, then what is it? This type of code does not produce any really useful result. This is a coding project to let you exercice algorithms and logic thinking. It is then reasonable to think that this is either school work or an Internet coding contest, such as Project Euler. School work is expected to be done on your own. Coding contests looses most of their meaning unless the problems are solved individually... About your for-loop functions: I said that your for loops didn't work. A reasonable thing to do then would be to take a closer look at them. If you did that but didn't see any problem with them, the next thing would be to assume that I was wrong, or to write a little test program and try them. Calling them 10 times in a row and printing their return value would have made it obvious that the loops did not perform any loop usable to your program. About your code: Before your loops, your comment says: "for() loops are used to randomly assign a digit to each of the [...]". What is random about a for loop? You have two three-digit numbers, i.e. the first digit in each number must be non-zero. You have implemented 6 loops to iterate through all combinations. But if only the first digit in each number must be non-zero, why are all loops iterating from 9 down to 1? Shouldn't four of the six loops include the digit zero? And why do you have two variables for each loop? Why not iterate a1 directly, instead of iterating on i, and assign i to a1? Note that you can convert the six loops into just two with: for (a = 100; a <= 999; a++) { a1 = a/100; a2 = (a/10)%10; a3 = a%10; for (b = 100; b <= 999; b++) { b1 = b/100; b2 = (b/10)%10; b3 = b%10; // Do all work here. } } And since you are only using a1, a2 and a3 to form mltply_1 (which the above code has as loop variable) you can skip evaluating a1, a2 and a3 totally. And if you swap places of the a and b loops, you don't need to evaluate b1, b2, b3 in the inner loop. You have a comment: "The result is assigned by multiplying both variable mltply_1 and mltply_2". Don't you expect anyone looking at your code to recognize that from the following source line? result = mltply_1 * mltply_2; Do not spend time writing comments that tells what individual source lines does. With correct variable and function names, that should be obvious from just looking at the code line. In some situations it may be needed to document _why_ you are doing something, since the reason behind isn't directly visible. Only when you have larger blocks of non-obvious code will it be needed to write a 'summary' to describe what the code does - or is expected to do. Back to your code again. Why are you performing the test: if ((mltply_1 * b3 < 1000) || ... before evaluating partial_1, partial_2, partial_3? If you assign your variables first, you don't have to evaluate the same thing twice. A selective - but very fast - test in your code is the requirement: if (partial_3 == (partial_1 + partial_2)) ... Why do you do that just before the printout? Wouldn't it be better to do it before you spend a huge amount of work to split partial_1, partial_2, partial_3 into 12 digits? Your test of digits verifies that all digits in partial_1 are represented in partial_2. But no test to verify that all digits in partial_2 are represented in partial_1. Why do you need 9 temporary variables just to split the partials into digits? You do not make use of the intermediate values anywhere... mltply_1, mltply_2, result, partial_1, partial_2 and partial_3 are unsigned integers. You have used the formatting character %d which is for signed integers. My suggestions should allow you to remove between half and two thirds of the variables, code lines and indentation levels and probably cut the running time with a factor 10. If the goal is to just get an answer, this doesn't matter. But then, this isn't the type of problem that you solve just to get an asnwer. It is a problem you solve to train your thinking, so the above improvements are important. The goal isn't to find a solution, but to find a good solution. Even more can be done to improve the code, but I must leave a bit for you to think about too :) An important rule: As soon as the code starts to look really messy, it is time to stop what you are doing and start pondering if you are doing something wrong. Most of the time, you are! Most programming problems are intended to have a clever solution. /pwm |

Almost. The loop will end when n reaches 0. But the last assign will be performed when n is 1. So the "loop" functions can be rewritten as: n = 0; h3 = 1; return 1; /pwm On Fri, 4 Apr 2008, Bruce Fletcher (Stronsay) wrote: > > why are they useless? why equal to 0? can i have more explanation? > > Let's take this bit of code: > int loopb3() > { > for (n = 9; n >= 1; n--) > b3 = n; > return b3; > } > > The function loopb3 has a "for..." loop which moves the value of b3 from > 9 down to 0.
