When you run your source code, if the compiling is OK, then the console window appear for a fraction of second and instantly disappear. Now to execute your .exe file, go to Start > Run > type cmd , then you get your console window. Now go to DOS prompt, type cd c:\ and it will lead you to DOS prompt. At DOS prompt type dev-cpp\MyPrograms or in whatever folder you have saved your . c/.cpp file then type the file name. exe. Hit enter and your program will be executed. It is always helpful to make a folder named MyPrograms in MinGW under Dev-C++ and save your compiled source codes with .c/cpp extension. The executed file will automatically be saved in MyPrograms folder. Whenever you want to run the programs, you can do it from MyPrograms folder. The console window will remain as long as you want and can be exited by typing exit at DOS prompt. I hope this will be of some help. |

When a program returns it closes the console window. You need to add system("PAUSE"); before returning from main to hold it up. If you still get this after declaring everything as double then you'll have to write your own extended precision floating point class! I feel that your problem has something to do with assigning the type of integer to the variable. I hope you've assigned the type like signed, unsigned, float , double etc. to the variable. Otherwise the compiler accepts any type of integer how big or small provided the rules are followed. Please try again. |

Hi! I am using a library (Pythia8108 - a package for high energy physics simulations). When I just include all library source files in my project, my project compiles. However, when 1) I compile the library separately , creating .a file 2) add this .a file to my project mentioning its directory in "Library directories" in project options I get a bunch of unresolved references. When I copy the library file to the Dev C++ lib directory and mention it also in the Linker options of the project, the number of unresolved references decreases, but some still remain. I post the linker log below. What could have possible go wrong? That makes sense. I was thinking the same thing by using getpeername and storing the IP in a string list to be compared later. But still don't understand when am I going to make the comparison of which address is gone. Is it inside the FD_CLOSE? I believe that by the time FD_CLOSE message triggers the socket is already gone. So the question, in other words is, what function will I use to check which IP is gone. I believe inet_ntop only converts the IP to a readable IP. If I use getnameinfo or gethostbyaddr , it's going to take a little while to return to (NOT CONNECTED). _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™ Hotmail®…more than just e-mail. http://windowslive.com/howitworks?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_t2_hm_justgotbetter_howitworks_012009 |

Each platform-toolkit, corresponds to > a graphical interface in linux? GTK+ is only for GNOME? GTK+ is primarily used by Gnome. Qt is technically independent (Qt also works on Windows) but is the foundation from which KDE's SDK is built. wxWidgets is a dedicated 100% cross-platform toolkit, so it works on Windows and Linux. There are tools which automatically allow you to use any toolkit in any Windowing environment (so I could use GTK+ stuff in KDE) so really just pick one, you can't go wrong - except with GTK+ which you could go very wrong with, but I might just be a little opinionated there ;-) Registered Linux Addict #431495 http://profile.xfire.com/mrstalinman | John 3:16! http://www.fsdev.net/ | http://lordsauron.wordpress.com/ |

I fully understand your point. Thank you for the link. However, the point I was trying to get across is that I may not need to code GUI applications for some given problem, however I would like to know how. You have, indirectly answered my question, as I did not understand what was the diference betwen Qt, wxWidgets, GTK+, and their relations to KDE and GNOME... Each platform-toolkit, corresponds to a graphical interface in linux? GTK+ is only for GNOME? Thank you for the fast reply. The Internet. http://www.google.com/search?q=linux+gui+programming+c%2B%2B I'd suggest either wxWidgets or Qt. GTK+, while heavily used, gives me an absolute headache (C-based GUI programming could be assembler for all I care - it's almost completely unreadable IMHO). > These are fundamental questions that prevent me to proceed > into linux world( Because cli coding is kinda similar ), and it > really, really bugs me not knowing. Read about Unix Theory. The CLI is your friend! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Unix_philosophy#Raymond:_The_Art_of_Unix_Programming The basic theory I'm hinting towards is that you build a command-line tool which performs your application's purpose* and then build a GUI which provides a nice graphical interface to that later. * if applicable - not always possible, for instance, say you want to build a PDF viewer or something like that - the command line would be completely inappropriate Registered Linux Addict #431495 http://profile.xfire.com/mrstalinman | John 3:16! http://www.fsdev.net/ | http://lordsauron.wordpress.com/ |

Hello, First and foremost, let me apologize for the ignorance I will display when asking this questions... I have only coded for Windows. With that in mind, let's assume I want to port some application to a linux distro. How can I make Graphical User Interface applications? Is there an uniform way to do this in Linux? Even better, where can I get information about those sort of things? These are fundamental questions that prevent me to proceed into linux world( Because cli coding is kinda similar ), and it really, really bugs me not knowing. Please advise on this, if you have any information. Thanking you in advance,Frederico Marques _________________________________________________________________ Organize seus contatos! Hi, when I'm using allegro, this line is to compile it: gcc -o main main.c `allegro-config --libs` and when I'm using libglade, this line is used: gcc -o main main.c `pkg-config --cflags --libs libglade-2.0` But now I must use allegro and libglade together. How I can compile this together? Thanks |

Sorry, but not a really good answer. The included MinGW compiler is truly ancient. If accepting the need that all third-party libraries (wxWidgets, ...) must be retrieved as source and built, then it is way better to get the latest MinGW compiler separately. MinGW has not stood still all these years... An even better solution for all beginners who haven't invested time in Dev-C++ projects is to get Code::Blocks (which is also using MinGW) that does everything Dev-C++ does and a lot more. And is maintained. Never ignore that little thing: Dev-C++ is not maintained! /pwm On Sat, 17 Jan 2009, Mr. Bijoy Chandra Phukan wrote: > MinGW is already incorporated in Dev-C++. MinGW is already incorporated in Dev-C++. Therefore, it's not required to install MinGW with Dev-C++ . |

Hello all. It's been awhile, but I have a question. When I try to compile my program in Dev using the full install with MinGW as the compiler, I keep getting the error message Linker error- undefined reference to _cpu_features_init. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I screwed up. |
