I have same situation. It would be really nice to have all your dll's/libs on same solution, because fe.
for dll you have to have one executable to test your code.
I'm not sure but it is not possible debug your compiled dll from executable project(? I've used Dev-C++
just for one day now ), so having multiple projects on solution brings also this feature. I hope :)
