Cold Sunday Bike Ride

Today is Monday January 19 2026 and yesterday i rode my bicycle outside.

It was cold.

I also rode Saturday, about an hour and 45 minutes on the trainer while watching Dark on Netflix and then some of Casablanca.

Saturday morning was dangerously cold for outdoor riding but the temps warmed up a bit on Sunday and i ended up doing two and a half hours outside. it was pretty great.

i'm really enjoying these later afternoon winter rides that coincide with the sunset.

i broke out the mittens and they worked so well my hands would got hot so i alternated between mittens and bare hands.

A friend and loyal blog reader recently asked why all the pictures of my hand... so i'll try to spice it up a bit in the picture department.

i headed north and made it all the way to the Boulevard but not before riding some of the single-track in Roanoke Park. i've forgotten about trails for a while now but last night it was magical. In fading daylight and bare hands i threaded the needle on about 40 seconds of gnarly downhill single-track and for those 40 seconds i felt like the lord of all creation.

Then i got to the bottom and put my gloves back on, returning to reality.

After pedaling thru the crossroads i headed back home thru Crown Center and then via the Gillham bike lane.

Did i mention i saw a coyote in Mission Hills? It looked very healthy.

Are you also aware that the bathroom at Taliaferro Park is apparently open 24/7 365 and the heat is always blasting plus there is a bottle fill up right outside that's apparently also open 24/7 365. This is amazing news. A toasty oasis in the middle of Siberia, if you will.

i recommend it... especially when you're only able to carry one bottle because the second bottle cage is holding the blue tooth speaker.

Music!

Random ride on a 70 degree day in January

Today is Thursday January 8 2026 and yesterday i did a bike ride.

My car got an oil change so i used that opportunity to ride my bike while the car was at the shop.

i rode from the shop back to work and then from work to the shop to pick up the car.

it was 70 degrees yesterday so i was in shorts and short sleeves for portions of the ride.

It's amazing much perfect weather can motivate you to ride your bike.

Now today its pouring rain and motivation is significantly less.

Pictures from Bike Rides

Today is Friday January 2 2026 and i've done a few bike rides since my last post.

Most of the rides have been on the mountain bike.

Plus i recently bought a pair of cycling jeans which might end up being my secret weapon for winter riding. i love them.

I'd love to build on all the riding i did last year and take a big step forward this year.

Can i do that?

Tune in and find out.

i haven't done much exercising for the past month so its time to start moving again.

2026!

SC in Turks and Caicos

Today is Tuesday November 25 2025 and yesterday i rode a bicycle in Turks and Caicos.

It was pretty great.

The ride didn't turn out as i wanted but hey, i rode a bicycle in frikin Turks and Caicos! How awesome is that!

X and i went for 4 nights. Specifically we were on Providenciales, which appears to be the main tourist island in Turks and Caicos. It was a true vacation (the little man stayed home with the grandmas).

For the last two days we rented electric bikes. There isn't much riding to do down there but i had scouted out some remote spots on the western most point of the island that i wanted to try and reach, so early yesterday i saddled up solo and headed out for what i hoped would be a true adventure. 45 minutes later i got a rear flat tire. Luckily i was able to ride it back to the hotel where i then jumped on the second electric bike for round 2. But this time i rode in a nicer area on nicer roads because we had a flight to catch later that day and i couldn't risk getting stranded on the other side of the island. So i never came close to making it to the remote areas i had scouted out.

The electric bike was sweet. It had pedal assist and full throttle mode. It had big tires which were perfect for the less than perfect Turks roads. It had a rear rack to hold all my crap.

This is a real "what could have been" ride because i got a flat right when the adventure was really starting. The roads were about to get sketchy but the rewards were about to get higher. However getting a flat and then riding that all the way back to the hotel was an adventure itself. The tire was completely flat but since it was an electric bike i could still go about 13 miles an hour. But it was obnoxiously loud. i got a lot of funny looks from the locals who were out and about.

Did i mention they drive on the wrong side of the road down there... that took some getting used to.

So it was an awesome ride that could have been awesome'r.

Bicycles!
