Outdoor Ecology Survey -Scavenger hunt- Earth Day- BioBlitz- Intro to Ecology

A BioBlitz is a period of biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within a designated area. Groups of scientists, naturalists and volunteers conduct these surveys, but YOUR STUDENTS CAN TOO! This ecology activity will get your students outside and identifying the nature around your school. I use this activity as a way to kickoff interest in our ecology unit. My students LOVE this activity. I split students into groups and make it a fun contest to see who can find the most amount of living things around our school. Once you do a BioBlitz you will want to complete this fun activity every year.Time needed: Half a day to explain the BioBlitz to students and one day to complete the BioBlitz.
