Pewter casting

Several jewelry-making enthusiasts fired up their blowtorches Saturday for a pewter casting workshop taught by nationally known designer and author Kim St. Jean at Bead Bistro.

These were examples the class instructor brought for us to view. Here was the class description: "Learn how to easily and cheaply produce small tokens, jewelry and dress accessories the way it was done in the Middle Ages. Students will learn about the use of pewter tokens, badges and trinkets in the 14th and 15th centuries, and will have the opportunity to produce a small piece of their own, carving a soapstone mold and casting it themselves.
