DENISON, Iowa -- Steven Holt easily won reelection Tuesday night in Iowa House District 12.Â
Preliminary results show the Republican Holt with 73.73% of the vote (10,263 votes) compared to 26.14%, or 3,639 votes, for his challenger, Democrat Dustin Durbin.Â
Holt, 66, a Denison businessman, chairs the powerful House Judiciary Committee. In 2022, the Republican ran unopposed in the House District 12, where GOP voters outnumber Democrats.
Durbin, 41, who lives in Dow City, Iowa, is volunteer services and community outreach coordinator at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, and is the owner of The Old Fashioned cocktail bar in Denison.
The sprawling District 12 takes in all of Ida and Crawford counties and portions of western and norther Shelby County. Cities and towns in the district include Denison, Ida Grove, Holstein, Battle Creek, Galva, Schleswig, Charter Oak, Westside, Harlan, Dow City, Manilla, Earling and Irwin.
