Polimeraza (EC 2.7.7.6/7/19/48/49) je enzim čija centralna funkcije je formiranje polimera nukleinskih kiselina kao što su RNK i DNK.[1] Reakcija polimerizacije nove DNK ili RNK se izvodi koristeći postojeći DNK ili RNK templet u procesima replikacije i transkripcije. U sprezi sa klasterom drugih enzima i proteina, polimeraza koristi nukleotide iz rastvora, i katalizuje sintezu polinukleotidne sekvence sledeći lanac nukleotidnog templeta.[2]
