Prima Lyric Clipboard Calendar

Prima Lyric Clipboard Calendar
Featuring Prima - Lyric collection

It's back to school time and you can find great deals on school and office supplies.  This year I found these blank plain clipboards at Walmart for under a dollar.  I picked up several because I want to make some teacher gifts with them.
First thing is to cut your paper to fit the clip board.
You can see that most clipboards and just slightly bigger that 12 inches, and it leaves some blank space at the top.

Take your cardstock, adhere a small piece bigger than the space you need, then use the Prima distressing tool, to shape the paper perfectly to size.
As if it wasn't cute enough, I added some embellishments and ribbon.
I tied ribbon to the top flap and also tied a binder clip to hold the name of the month.
I created a blank calendar grid, then copied it onto a transparency.  I added a bit of adhesive to the bottom of the transparency and put it under the black ribbon, to hide it, and cliped it down on the top with the clipboard.

Note: I flipped the image and copied it so the ink is on the back side of the transparency. The reason is so when you write and erase with a wet marker, it doesn't pull or wipe of the copy.

This was such a fun project to create.  You can find the supplies at The Hens' Den.

What do you win you ask!!!

A bag full of goodies from Tim Holtz , Dyan Reaveley and Claudine Hellmuth
Distress Ink, Distress Stain, Dylusions Ink, Distress Paint, Studio Acrylic paint and a hand full of tags to play with.

So without further ado......I am excited to show you my project.
I started out with a plain, wooden crate.  I've seen them around and since I have a love for containers, I picked this up a while ago.  I wasn't really sure what I wanted to use if for or where I wanted it to go, but as soon as I got my supplies for the blog hop, it became pretty clear.  You see, my house is decorated in an Americana theme, and I have Red, White and Blue accents everywhere.

I first decided that I wanted to make a flag with on the slatted side.  I cut my strips and tore them to get the distressed antique look I was going for.
Then used modge podge to glue them on to the side.  I could have painted the wooden crate, but I liked the light color of the wood.

I know that tearing has been around as a technique forever, but it is a quick way to add some texture and interest to a project.  Tearing is one of my favorite go-tos and never goes out of style.  DON'T be scared to tear your paper.  If you haven't done it, try it.  If it's been a while, give it a shot again.

The flag turned out, okish.....I didn't "love" it when I was done.  That is OK, because every project is a chance to learn.  The next time you try it will be even better.  Have you ever had a great idea, tried it and it was just a huge disaster?  It happens.......

At this point I decided I wanted to do make a collage of all the gorgeous papers on the end.  I was like "just go for it, it can't be any worse than the flag..."  So I seriously slapped down some modge podge and cut, tore and glued random papers.

I moved quick, without over thinking where to put it.  I was a very fast paced and exciting creative process, and I really love the finished look.

So the sad thing is, is this is how the crate was being used while I was figuring out what to do with it, and this is possible how it is going to be used for a while longer.

Why not have a more decorative "table" until a more permanent home is found, then again, maybe it is already home.

Don't forget to leave a comment for your chance to be entered into the drawing.  Your next stop is

Prom 2013

Prom 2013 layout
Featuring Prima Lyric Collection
Look at this gorgeous paper line I was able to work with this month!  It is beautiful!

In my last blog post I posted a layout of my daughter on her Prom date.  My father in law got some great pictures of her that night so I wanted to make it a double page layout.  The Prima Lyric line is perfectly elegant and was perfect for these photos.

I used the Prima Lyric Orchestra paper as my background.  I cut out one of the elements from the Prelude paper and used that as a back ground of the picture of both of them.  To add to the fun and vintage feel of the page, I tore the edges.  I backed the picture in green cardstock and backed the entire picture element in red cardstock.  This paper line has a black lace element to it, so the black crochet lace was a perfect fit for this page.  Prima has so many cute chipboard embelishments, brads, buttons and stickers that match this line.  One I got started it was hard to choose which things I wanted to use, they were all so cute!   I hope this gives you some ideas of ways that you can use the prima Lyric collection!

My Minds Eye Mini
featuring My Minds Eye Collectable collection
By Lori McClellan
I've said it before, I LOVE My Minds Eye, and this collectable collection.  Here is what I had to work with.

When I pulled out my supplies, I had a different project in mind, but as I tried to decide how to get started the Unforgettable Journal paper was SCREAMING at me!  It sounds weird, but paper talks to me (occasionally I talk back).  This particular sheet was telling me in needed to become a mini.

This is how my family found me, still in my PJ's, with major bed-head, bra-less (because if we're being honest, it's the most comfortable way to work), scrap supplies spread out on the floor, and the most adorable mini coming together before my eyes.  I LOVE when inspiration hits me and a project just comes together.

My Minds Eye - Collectable - Unforgettable Story - Journal Paper
Unforgettable story Journaling sheet  by MME
The Unforgettable Story Journaling sheet is (12) 3 x 4 cards.  To start my album I cut them apart to become my pages.  That is a pretty small album so I decide to mount them on slightly bigger pages.  Using the coordinating papers from the collectable collection I cut pages 4 x 5 to mount the cards on.  With the coordinating sticker, enamel dots, and twine from My Minds Eye All is Bright line, this is how the adorable mini came out.

So, does paper ever "talk" to you?  Do you think I got the message it was trying to send me?

Washi tape Matchbook Box
featuring My Minds Eye, Graphic 45 and Petaloo products

Here is a picture of the fun product I get to work with this month.  I am so excited to get to play with My Minds Eye Collectible collection.  The papers and embellishments in this collection are BEE-U-TI-FUL!!!!  I am doing a 2 part project with this collection so stay tuned for a second part coming soon.

I was so lucky to be able to help out in The Hens Den booth at the CKC scrapbook expo last week.  I had so many new ideas when I left after spending 2 days surrounded by gorgeous paper and embellishments.  Although washi tape is the newest, coolest trend in scrapbooking and paper crafting, I had yet to collect any.  The Hens Den has quite an assortment of washi tape available, and it found myself leaving the expo with a small collection.  As fate would have it, on my flight home from Portland, I was lucky to sit next to Megan Hoepner, editor from Creating Keepsakes magazine.  I admitted to her that I was having a love affair with washi tape, but had yet to play with it.  She was SO SWEET and pulled out her phone and shared with me some of her washi tape projects.  Once again, I was so full of new ideas and ways I hadn't even thought to use washi tape.  I have been holding on to this 8 x 8 matchbook box from graphic 45 for a while and I knew that I wanted to used the washi tape for this project.  It was so easy!!  I just started laying down the tape one after the other.  I could not believe how easy it was and what a great look you got.

My Minds Eye has these 3 tapes together in one package.  I added the pink petaloo flower and really, does it need more?  As I said this is a 2 part project, so watch for the second half coming later in the week.  I hope that this gives you some fresh ideas.

I can't wait to hear what you think.

Become layout

Kaisercraft 75 cent collection
Become layout using the March Chic sketch
Created by DT member Lori McClellan

I am so excited to be sharing a new take in the March chic sketch.  I did the left page of the sketch last time, and so this time I tried a layout using the right side of the sketch.
So as you can tell, I did not add any pictures to my layout.  That is A-OK in my book, me share with you my top reasons why I love to have a bunch of premade layouts.
1.  I like to have pre-made layouts on hand for when I get my pictures printed, I can quickly add a photo and be done with a page.
2.  I like to give pre-made pages in an album as gifts.  (Especially for my friends and family who don't scrapbook, they can easily add their own photos and have an amazing, personalized album.
3.  Sometimes I see a sketch or have an idea that I'm afraid I will lose or forget, so by making a blank layout, you have it when you are ready to use it down the road.
4.  I love my pretty paper, but if I hold on to it and don't use it, chances are I will just hoard it.  By making a blank layout, I will already have a beautiful  piece just waiting for the right pictures.
5.  I take pictures to match the layouts I already have done.  It makes choosing the right color clothing and accessories so easy!
6.  I love to make page packets using sketches, so when I go to an expo or just sit down to scrapbook  I can pull out all the co-ordinating papers, sketch and embellishments and throw them together.  Easy.  Fast.

So speaking of expos, I will be at the CKC expo in Portland, OR. March 22nd and 23rd, at the Hens Den booth.  I hope you can stop by, I can't wait to meet you!  We will be happy to help you get all your supplies to make very memorable pages.

New double layout sketch

Kaisercraft 75 cents collection
Muddy Memories layout using the March sketch
Created by DT member Lori McClellan

I am so excited today to share with you a new Chic sketch from The Hens' Den.  We will be using this all month for our DT projects and hope that all our followers choose to sketch along with us.
So as you can see, this sketch allows for up to 12 pictures.  I love that!  If every page I scrapped I used only one picture, I will never catch up.

Here is my take on one page of the sketch.  The kaisercrafts 75 cents line has so many beautiful papers in the collection.  I love the butterflies in the die cut pack.  I layers a larger butterfly on the bottom and a smaller one on top, adhered them together and folded the wings.  I love the dimension it brings to the layout.
And here is my finished page.
You can find all the supplies to make this layout at The Hens' Den.  Go check it out today.   I hope you play along this month.  If you use our sketch send us a picture on facebook or share on the gallery on the blog!
